Staveley head insurance...

Oh Bu++er I'm with them, runs out in march though,

I’m with them also and currently away in my van!! Not due for renewal until May!! Anyone have any idea how I stand re cover as I’ve only just seen this post!!

Aren't they just brokers ? I'm insured through them but sure it's with a different insurance company.

Yes Keith777 they are brokers but the policy I have with them is underwritten by the firm they are/were in dispute with.

Contact the underwriters and get confirmation from them that your insurance is still valid.

We've used S.H. since February 2016 on both our Moho's, premiums were always competitive for us, our renewal came through the other day - up 30 odd % from £180 to £240, needless to say I thought something was wrong, a quick call revealed that there was nothing they could do to improve the quote so we advised that the policy would lapse & have since found a like for like quote from Advance for just £195

There has been signs for a couple of years or more that the underwriters were how can I say "not the best in the industry" In 2018 one of their main underwriters Qudos went bust. I had them cancel a policy with a stream of bullshit. They tried to keep around £75 for the week I was insured with them. I made an official complaint and the member of staff I complained about dealt with the complaint! I threatened them with further action and they sent me a letter of apology and a full refund.
I found them to be dishonest, unorganized and not a company to trust with my business.

Al-Di Keith777 Cal54 - don't know if you have got any updates to share from this morning but just to let you know that I've emailed both the administrators & the Money Saving Expert website (who advised on a similar situation before) to try & get facts as to whether policyholders are still covered or not. It's worth a try as, although we aren't insured with them, it may affect quite a few Funsters.

If SH are only brokers then the Certificate of Insurance will have written on it 'Underwriten by .....', in which case SH are only agents and the contract is between the Insured and the Underwriter, as the agent's Principal. Basic principle of agency law.

If the Underwriter is still in business there should be no problem with cover being continued.

There were some problems years ago in some insurance markets when brokers were owning some offshore insurance underwriters(e.g. The Howden Four) and it was a virtual spiral. However I think that the Regulators have stopped the practice.

Thanks Wombles for looking into this, it's very much appreciated as I am insured through them and was struggling to find much information. (y)
