When I took my RAE (Radio Amateurs Exam Course) in 1982 I still recall the experiment from our tutor, the late G3FIJ.
He erected a di-pole and there were some festoon bulbs making up the elements. There were also some detachable wires at each end.
When he powered up, some of the bulbs lit. Then he removed the detachable wires and other bulbs lit instead.
There we are, standing waves explained !
Learning about sky waves on HF also explained why Radio Luxembourg faded.:thumb:
