Statues on Formby Beach - advice please (1 Viewer)

We are in Southport tomorrow and fancy going to see those statues/figures on the beach at Formby . Can anyone recommend which is the best (motorhome friendly ) cark park within walking distance ? O.S. map references please.

I have never been but I know that several people have used the following campsite when going to look at the statues. Perhaps it is worth giving them a ring.

Hello,

The statues are on Crosby Beach which is a fair walk from Southport/Formby
You'd be better driving to Crosby Liesure Centre car park on Mariners Road, L23 6SX.

Ken and Dawn, both your posts were right.

We went earlier in the year, parked a few minutes walk from the beach, just behind it. When we got there it was high tide and quite windy, some statues were completely covered and some were up to their knees.

Really worth going to look at there are about 50 of them.

You've got to go to see what they look like from the front!! I've got a pic but I wont spoil it......:moon:

There are 100 of them over a 3 mile stretch and out to sea for a mile. Best to go when the tide is out as it looks more impressive. Also get a better view when there are not a lot of people. The main car park for the Anthony Gormley - Another Place exhibition is motorhome friendly - have parked there ourselves more than once. As you drive from Southport it's before you reach Crosby and is signposted. Formby point in fairly near to there - I think it is between Crosby and South port - and has a wooded walk where you can see red squirrels if you're lucky and there are walks along the beach and over the sand dunes, it's National Trust and I'm not sure of the cost as we were members when we visited.
