Hi all, I have a year 2000 Rapido on a Fiat chassis with the 2.8 idTD engine. During October I had a problem starting it after being parked up for 3 days. It started lmeadeately but only on what sounded like 3 cylinders, once up onto the Norwich ringroad foot to the floor covering passing vehicles in thick black smoke it cleared and ran like a dream back to Lincolnshire. Due to circumstances beyond my control it has been standing idle for the last 3 months until last weekend, turned the key fired up imeadeately but only on what sounded like 3 cylinders kept it running for around 3 to 4 minutes then suddenly down to 2 cylinders and stopped, since then not a sign of life! Any ideas on what the problem could be would be most welcomed.

Heater plug(s) need checking/replacing.
You could try a DIY injector cleaning treatment (from Halfords and others).
Extreme cold turning the diesel 'waxy'? Unlikely but possible.
I assume you activate the 'Cold start' facility (if it has one).
Clogged fuel filter or faulty pump...........?

Is this van fitted with a mechanical injection pump ie the rotary type.

Poss fuel filters one in engine bay one in the fuel tank as well .
