Starlink ordered… I feel it’s the only sensible option now..

Update:

Still no reply from Starlink support. I tried again today to transfer/cancel and still no options to do that.

We have arrived at a small free aire at Les pillets just north of Bordeaux and decided to turn on Starlink.

This time it didn’t automatically connect to service and gives you the option to connect and cost £10.80 till the 12th January. I connected and paused straight away. So have a few days use

It took a while updating but is the first time I’ve seen a cancel button.

I will catch up with everything first while we have a service and before the 12th I will hit the cancel or transfer button and see if it will work. Maybe they will be in contact before then

Still no contact from Starlink. But went shopping today

French plug but have an adapter.

I’ll set this one in France now.

Just for information for anyone considering this.

We called in at a shop in France today in Dax.

Darty…… A bit like Currys. They had the mini in stock €399 rather than £399 saving £67

I’ve just set it up. A bit stressful as I did it on the other half’s phone so it was separate to our original account.

On setting up it sets itself off the phone so showing uk prices. I changed on the globe on the app to France

That made it difficult as we are not fluent but was not to hard to set up. Picked a campsite for address and used a Halifax clarity card for payment. It went through no problem.

Going forward £36 per month savings and as we mostly use in France 60 days out of country works ok

Checked the download and 130 at the moment

I can't remember if anyone ever worked out how long you have to be back in your home country to reset the 60 day thing?

As soon as your dishy boots on your home network you’re deemed to have arrived home and can then roam again for 60 days. I checked this when my case was escalated to the shift supervisor when I had the call a few months back with Starlink.

I’d like to speak to anyone let alone a supervisor. Just want to sort this transfer/cancel. So I can work out what to do with it.

Found the info
You can't transfer a Starlink kit until at least 90 days after activation or 120 days after purchase, whichever comes first.

Assuming this does not apply to yourself?
Ok Huston we have contact. :ROFLMAO:

I had 2 missed calls at 2am last night:mad:

Then received an e mail saying they would contact me between 8 and 6 my time.

So they call me and ask what the issue is and I explain. Let’s look into this he says. Oh yes I see the problem. You are within the 90 days he said.
But I purchased this in November 23. And gave the receipt number.
I’ll just check it out he said. Came back 5 minutes later. Yes sorry for the delay but you are only 45 days from the purchase date
Unbelievable. I then explained again that I have had this over a year. Another 5 minutes later to work it out.

Finally agreed to pass it on to get it cancelled completely and I’ll be able to set up as new install with same details.
I was thinking of selling but I think as I have it I’ll be better off registering in Spain. With the mini in France
The mini will pause on February 10. I’ll then set up original Starlink for a month in Spain a pause. Using the mini for the rest of the trip.
That leaves the Spanish Starlink with 60 days left out of country to use in uk if required the French mini will reset on the way home giving me 60 days on that as well if required. The monthly savings will quickly cover the cost of the mini.

I’m finding that the mini is a superb bit of kit so far. Running at 21w atm well over 100 mb download and at £60 per month well worth it

Ah right so they are measuring days online not days since it was first activated, if that is the case then that needs to be made clearer but i am glad they sorted it.
I am about to convert mine to 12v tomorrow now i am home, i brought a Beryl MT-3000 router to go with it. Hopefully all will go well as it's too bloody cold out there to be messing about with this. I only have 5 days left before the service stops so need to get it done this weekend as i dont want to activate it again for another month just to test the conversion. Won't use it again now till December when we are back in Spain as don't need it in the UK for our use.

If you connect the service in Spain, then you will have to pay for a month, even if you pause immediately! My understanding from my conversations is it’s 60 days use, effectively two service periods. You’ll end up paying for lots of part months use with no service consumed if you switch on for a few days or a week or two then pause..

Yes I understand.

So I’ve set up the mini and will use for the 1 month only. Already paused for 10th February
I’ll then set up my original and use that in Spain for 1 month until 10th march and pause.
I’ll then use the mini again for the time left in Spain and the journey back home through France it also resets the 60 days. I’ll only lose the days up to 10 April depending on return date

It will always be some loss unless I plan the holidays around starlink dates

Well I've finally took the plunge and converted my fixed gen2 starlink to 12v. I honestly don't know why I didn't do it sooner as it was so simple. No cutting of cables just plug and play.
Used a beryl mt3000 router which runs from usbc and a conversion kit that takes the original dishy cable as is and just plugs into this device which you then give power to.
I also wired mine into some WiFi switches so they can be controlled by app or by the RF Remote if I want everything off.
All in all this will solve the issue I had last year with poor campsite EHU as most is the time I never powered on the starlink as I couldn't be bothered to keep turning on the invertor when the site electric went.
Tested just before they stop it as I only had to 15 Jan as I've paused it now. Won't get to use it now till end of the year when we go back but at least I can forget about it now and know it will be good when I switch it back on.
If you are thinking of converting it then I would just do it as I honestly can't believe how simple it was. No messing with the router as that just worked. 👍

Well done and welcome to the club! I often find in life, the fear of the unknown and doing something is way worse than actually diving in! ✔️

My 12v conversion has been running for over 13 months now and operational daily for 11 of those. I used the Boondockers box, AX3000 12v router and I couldn’t be any happier!

I was going to use a tplink ax5400 but thought it was over kill for what I need so sent it back and got the beryl instead. Glad I did as I can use wireguard on this router as well so I can connect back to my home network as the touch of a button.
I have the boondocker solution as well but didn't need it as I wanted to be able to connect the original router back up if needed for any issues.
They have another solution as well now that incorporates the usbc connection from the same unit which would be even easier.
All in all though it's working and that's all that matters.

I might be in contact when I get back from this trip about converting my gen2 to 12v going forward

Especially as I have the mini on 12 v. Just watching the football and that is running at around 18 w. Half my gen 2

Using Starlink at the moment aboard P&O Iona on our way to the Caribbean for 5 weeks. performance is amazing. I don’t know how many others we are sharing this facility with out of the 6000 passengers aboard, but in the Atlantic halfway to our first port in Tenerife I am pleasantly surprised at how good this connection is.

FYI for those that are transferring to a Spanish service (may also apply to French) that the second month billing has just gone through and they have now charged the €9 regulatory fee. This means the subscription in Spain is effectively €81 not €72.

Still £67 instead of £96.

I received my e mail from them yesterday saying they had deleted my old account.
So I can set up with old details with a new account in Spain
I have until 9th February to make up my mind on setting it up in Spain or selling
Keeping both seems like a good idea ATM just for greater flexibility on days out of country

I’m not really complaining about the price, more informing!

As I’ve posted before, I will be running with two starlinks and will set up the ‘spare’ in France in August when we arrive.

This guy reckons he powers the new dish for a while from small anger power bank. Gone through a few tests and cables etc

To be honest you can power your gen 2 with a power bank no problem.
I’ve just tried the mini direct to the Aferiy 2300. But didn’t get it to work. But it is 3 amp so expected that.
I need to get the proper usb cable but not seen it in Spain.
That would get rid of the plug

I’ve deactivated my V2 today in preparation for re registration in France on Sunday/ Monday.
Fingers are crossed that it’s as easy as it sounds.

You can get adapters for the mini to use a couple of power tool batteries.
