Wondered if anyone had any experience of Starling Bank.
They seem to be ideal for those that travel overseas a lot. Unless someone knows differently?

Metro Bank uses Mastercard rate and no charges in Europe for drawing cash & you get a nice cup of coffee when you go in to open an account.

Thanks Lenny, I had a look at them but unfortunately you can only open an account in branch (Home counties only), I'm the wrong end of the country.

Found a bit more about Starling.

Founded by former Allied Irish Banks Co Anne Boden in 2014
Headquarters are in London.
FCA license granted in July 2016

They use MasterCard exchange rates & no charges for use or cash withdrawal.
I thought they may be a better bet than the likes of Revolut as being a bank the card should be OK to use in automatic fuelling stations etc, which your can't do with Travel cards afaik

Its not the same as a pre-loaded card like Revolut, it's a current bank account so you keep a positive balance in (which you get 0.5% interest on balances up to £2,000) then you can draw that out (£300 max per day) with no commission or interest charges, can't see any negatives about it especially since it uses the Mastercard rate for conversion so no loss there either.

Certainly worth thinking about as well as, or instead of, a pre-paid card ... might have to get one myself! (y)

Revolut.

You can have a bank account with them too now.

Very true but there's the £200 pcm limit on 'free' ATM withdrawals although they do give a good exchange rate, having Revolut and the Sterling card would be a good combination in case you need to take out more money.

We use Starling, good app. Complements Revolut rather than replaces it abroad. It is a debit card so different to Revolut and we found accepted when Revolut not.
