I have a 2004 starblazer.

The door door lock (habitation door) will only stay shut when locked is this the way it is or should you be able to push the door shut and then pull the handle to open it without locking it.
It is a pain in the a## having to unlock it all the time.

Thanks Rob

There are various different types of habitation door handles/locks but all I've seen close without locking so maybe something has slipped/broken. O'Learys have a large range of the different types.

The spring broke on my van's lock (same lock as yours). I bought some piano wire and fabricated a replacement, albeit, not the easiest task. Or, as Andy has indicated replacement locks are available at a price.

Usually a lot more than that price too Phil.

Yes indeed not easy to replicate at all but a locksmith might make light work of it.

The pictures I posted are of a old lock that broke before I got the camper
I have a new one on the van now.

I just wanted to know if it should shut without having to lock it every time.

Yes
If this has just occurred then something has failed. If it has done it since fitting then it is not fitted correctly in some way.

Thanks Andy that's what I wanted to know.

It was replaced just befor I got the camper so it looks like it was fitted wrong.

I will have a look at it this week and see what they have done wrong.

It can only be the position of the white tabs or they fitted a single tab unit. The position of the locking lever must play a part I imagine too

Thank you all for your help.

I found the problem it was the leaver on the door handle when I took the lock off the leaver inside the handle of the door was bent.
all works as it should now.
