Stains on front of Hymer.... (1 Viewer)

So as a relatively new owner of a motorhome, I've yet to give it a good external clean...now I know there are specific cleaners for gelcoat etc but my question is it normal for the front to hold stains like this? This may be a stupid question but is the material supposed to have this porous characteristic or has someone spent too much time removing the top coat with CIF....

Just looks like surface muck. A low cut polish should clean up the surface like this:

Ok, just wasn't sure of the properties of the front panels, when washing it these stains didn't budge so wasn't sure if that is normal or not although I shouldn't be using normal car polish on it like above? Was thinking more farecla gel coat restorer?

This is the stuff you want mate it will shift the dirt and polish up the gel coat nicely. Use a machine polisher Argos sell good one cheap

It’s good stuff mate. I used it on my Hymer clean but very dull bodywork. Cleaned as normal and polish machine out and the stuff was fantastic. Friend has boats and works a treat on them. As Hymer use the same as boats for shell. It’s a no er

RV49 is excellent for bringing back dull and stained grp.

This is good stuff and what you need, use the cleaner wax before this and then the marine polish.

Farecla gel coat restorer is good for light oxidisation, depending how bad it is it might need something a bit more corse but a good start.

Just be careful if you use any type of abrasive to remove a stain or to brighten up the vehicle you are in fact removing a layer of whatever you are polishing , the harder and longer you rub the more of the layer you will remove, as I say just be careful

Our first Hymer had a glossy graphite grey acrylic type painted front, to match the vallances and wheel arches. Didn't realise this was not original until told in Germany that they did not make them like that. It looked superb like this. Then I started to notice that most other similar aged Hymers with white fronts had dulled down to a sort of matt finish. Pity Hymer hadn't used something like our previous owners had applied.

Having worked on boats for many years Meguiars and Starbrite are both excellent products. if it's an old Hymer and has been ignored for a long time a cut back with Farecla before polishing will give a better finish. It's just harder work!!
