Does anybody else have brakes that squeal whenever you approach a junction or come to a halt? Any solution? We have a 2021 Ducato based motorhome. TIA

My right rear squeals on light to medium applications. It's been checked at service and passed its MOT. It's annoying.

The 'usual' cure for squealing brakes, was pads out and a thorough clean, perhaps a thin smear of grease on the back of the pads.

Hey Shropshire lad

My 2021 Ducato is the same. Squeal from front brakes has become really bad and it is booked in to have it looked at under warranty a couple of weeks time.

I am on 16,000 miles

The Fiat Professionals garage was not surprised at the compliant ….

Same here, glad you posted this, I thought just a build up of brake dust at first so a good jetwash cured it for 5 miles :ROFLMAO:
Id be interested to know if they have anti squeal shims or certain problems,

My car does some days, others nothing. New pads and discs fitted last July. Passed MOT ok and all breaking fine.
Took pads out and added some copper grease plus checked for any other issues but all seems fine. Putting it down to crap pads from Eurocarparts 🙄

The best lube for brake pads is ceramic grease. It is very high melting point and will remain in place for many miles. I know some use copper grease, but it was never the intended use. It was designed to form an anti-seize film for exhaust components, mainly threads. The rational is the binding agent (grease) burns off, but leaves behind a film of copper, thus enabling the parts to be disassembled.
I use Mintex CeraTec on all my brake systems: cars, vans, tractors trailers etc. I do not experience any squealing, sticking pads or sticking callipers.

My September 2020 boxer maxi chassis van had its front and rear brake pads stripped and cleaned (by me) last August 2022 at 6500 miles. They weren't squealing or seized or pads anywhere near worn out but were extremely caked with brake dust. I will do a brake pad strip and clean every 10k miles or thereabouts. I use ceramic grease same as donkey.

Vans that sit around tend to get this as the brake dust sets a little and a little rusting combine to make the pads sticky. With low mileage vans it is hardly likely to be crap non OEM quality replacement pads that we see on older vans

Meany years ago a near naibor asked if I had a grease gun. As he owned a Datsun Sunny estate I was intrested to know what he was going to grease. He said his front brakes squealed and he was told he needed grease on his front pads. He then pointed to what he thought were grease nipples on the calipers.
He was very thankful that I explained were he should put the grease and helped him clean up the back of the pads and put hight temp brake grease on them.

I had a squealing problem but only when it was really hot in France never made a noise in uk. It would brake okay no issues and I was getting good mileage it turned out that I had a brake seized on had to have new callipers and pads on

I had squealing back brakes when approaching junctions in my 2016 boxer (possibly same braking system)
Irelaced all four disks and pads because they needed replacing but the squealing continued, I figured it was the hand brake was causing it so I stripped them out, cleaned everything and checked cables etc. but the squealing continued 🙄
Figured out it was a lever under the front end of the van which operates the handbrake bar when you pull the handbrake, it was half seized, so when you released the handbrake the shoes were still making slight contact, haven't had a squeal since freeing it out.
A bit long winded sorry but hard to explain.
Hope it helps, Liam

My 2020 Fiat does it. 10,000, original pads. I mentioned it to the Fiat mechanic when I was in for a recall. He says its common on motorhomes that sit for a while not being used. He said use them hard a few times. Take it up to 70 then brake hard to a stop ( if it's safe). it did make a difference.

They are commercial brakes and I don't think motorhomes usually do enough braking like in a commercial van? Bit like the egr and dpf can clog if you pootle about gently in your pride and joy. It needs an occasional 4th gear thrash and some prolonged braking.

As an update.

Fiat Professinal say yes they squeal - but Fiat won’t do anything , I would have to pay for new discs and pads …. Despite the fact that is the third time it had been in for this fault.

Currently I am arguing with Fiat customer service a sit reported the fault first at 6 months old they should sort it

As it is nearly out of warranty at two years old , 20,000 miles if I get nowhere with Fiat I will strip, clean and properly lubricate the right bits with proper ceramic grease and see what happens.

I should not have to but I don’t have the time to keep taking it back and wait all day for them to say of it is fine ….and lose a days holiday.

Daniel.

Mine have been squealing for the last 15K miles - 22K now
Its not bad enough for me to want to do any thing about it.
Fiat obviously don't see it a safety issue so I'll carry on ignoring them

Mine have been squealing for months,
Had to hard brake last week in France all my stuff smashed forwards in cupboards good and proper.

Realised today that they arent doing it any more ?

Solution, get a blind french man to pull out in front of you across a dual carraigeway.

My tag axle rear brakes used to squeal,so had the pads taken out and took the glaze off the pads with wet and dry sand paper and no more squealing.

My 2016 Ducato brakes squeal under moderate braking, have had them checked out with no evident problem, now on 11k miles.

Update. Van went into Fiat who immediately informed me it was not a warranty issue. They took all wheels off and cleaned and greased then replaced. Told me there was a build up of dust and charged me £100! Seems to be better but not perfect.
