We've got an overcab bed. It's a fantastic solution to add tons of space to a short vehicle. But a good chunk of the general background noise I get whilst driving is from the bed above my head. Lots of annoying squeaks. If I push up from the driver's seat while driving (!), quite a lot of the noise disappears. We leave the bedding on there and it does dampen the rattles, but not the squeak that sounds like someone trying to use a worn out and rusty hacksaw.

Any tips on quietening it down?

There are some buffer type things each side you can adjust to stop slack plus grease the rod that locks it in place. I have done ours as best I can but it still drives me crazy.

You mean the mechanism for the locking pins? And the slots they latch into? It does sound like a lot of the noise comes from that area.

Yes, but adjusting the buffers will take the slack out to stop the movement causing the noise.

Have you tried extra packing, so it’s harder to close, and then stops the up down movement. Packing like folding the duvet, and pillows.

Spray every joint you can see, or rubbing vinyl areas, with silicone spray. If that doesn’t work spray the ones you can’t see. You’ll find the right bit eventually.

We had exactly the same issue with our B444 DL. Over on f'book in the Hymer Owners' Group there's a really useful article with a fix, written by Stewart J Hingston - it's easy to follow and carry out and it worked like a charm for us.

For those of us not in the Hymer FB club can you enlighten us as the same fix will likely work on all makes as they are probably the same bed mechanism?

"A couple of weeks ago I asked if other dynamic line owners suffer from excessive clunking knocking and squeaking from the overcab bed when on the road as ours did despite the dealer having several attempts to cure it. Now it’s out of warranty I decided to see if I could work it all out and resolve the issue which I have done, we are now blessed with a few gentle low noise rub/ squeaks on rough surfaces so here’s my cure, I have no idea if this is the correct procedure but it’s working for us. First off I completely loosened back the forward adjusters for the bed( locknut requires a 10mm spanner) photo 1, then with the bed in stowed position both were adjusted up to touch the cantilever arm. I then dropped the bed and screwed them up a couple of turns re-stowed the bed and grasping aft end either side of release shook it up and down to see if any movement along bed front screwing them up more till movement negligible and tightened the ladjuster locknuts. Again checking bed for movement sideways this time I found there was. There are a pair of adjusters into which the spring loaded locking bar fits into. Loosening back the two Allen screws (4 mm key) Hymer have fitted 1 mm thick plastic spacers which just slot in to take up sideways play. Photo 2 & 3. Using an old dvd case which is 1.25mm thick I made up spacers (photo 4) fitting two on near side and 1 on offside checking each time for sideways movement of bed when stowed. This has completely cured the banging and creaking even on rougher roads bliss. So I hope this may give others with the same problem some ideas."

I have to say it's one of the things I love about this euramobil. The overcab bed doesn't make a sound when driving or when using it , no squeaks rattles or bangs, the one in my hymer drove me nuts squeaking and the electric one in the frankia rattled like hell and I never used either of them so I'm pleasantly surprised with this one considering its the one I use so it's up and down daily

The one in our Rapido made quite a bit of noise too, and we didn't use it. Perhaps using it more quietens it down.
Current motorhome doesn't have a drop down bed so no noise.

Have you checked the wife's in the passenger seat - that's the seat next to the driver's - and not still topsides having a lie in before you set off?

Thanks for this. I don't recognise the adjusters in photo 1. The bed certainly rocks a fair amount when its stowed, so maybe something similar is further up front hidden behind the curtain. I can see what they've done for photo 2. I'll check to see what I can do with the spacer idea...

Cheers.

If you don't have any luck I will be selling this euramobil with non squeaky bed in April 😁
