On a bad day, it might just about get as busy as Somerset. But that would be a BAD day!

It depends on where you want to go, Scotland is quite a large country.

We were up north mid March to end April last year and, with the exclusion of one site on the NC500 (C&MC Dunnet Head), most places were less than half full.

What's skool?:D
Shouldn't be too bad.

Ullapool will be very busy 1st bank holiday weekend in May because of the feis which is a great weekend for musicians and lovers of Scottish traditional music.

Fortrose Bay site is very good but rocky beach.
The site in middle ground.

A couple of views from our pitch.

Rosemarkie (never stayed on it) but excellent sandy beach.
The site is left of centre in the distance.

Both are easy walking distance to the dolphins (as said).

the site at Ullapool closes at festival time as thats where they hold the festival. check first. great site though.

Don't miss out the Gairloch / Kinlochewe loop, good sites at both, in fact we will be there ourselves week after next

If Ullapool site is closed, which I don't rate as special, (it is convenient though) go 10 miles north and use the beautifully located site at Ardmair

As for busy, we have never found so at this time of year, whether kids are at school or not :)(y)

I believe the site closes for the guitar festival in October but not for the Feis (Scottish traditional music weekend) in May which is mainly situated in the schools

I quite like Inverness, particularly the walk down the river or across to the Caledonian canal. It's got a great second hand book shop in Church Street.

totally agree

Is that a pub will look in, Which direction from campsite.
Eh naw! See post #19 above.
But there are a few pubs close by -
Union Tavern
Andersons
both in Fortrose (turn left out of Fortrose Bay site and then right onto High Street)
and
The Plough Inn
in Rosemarkie (but about 3x as far away as the other two)

Te beer is a bit watery down at the Dolphins.
