On and off for many years.
Biggest pile of rubbish we ever had was a Chevrolet. Was pleased to see the back of it.

Best cars have all been British built Toyotas - excluding the present car as we haven't had it long enough to judge yet. It's 3 years old and has two more years full guarantee including all servicing. :) And it is French.

I have had Fords and Vauxhalls for 25 years doing about 30k per year with my business and they never let me down but the last car I bought was a 12 month old Mercedes C220 it was back in the garage at least 6 times for different faults and I was also towed in off the motorway once with a faulty gearbox.

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
The van engines are solid and don't use all the fancy electrics as the cars which make them reliable engines that can do the miles if they are serviced annually. I may be wrong though!

The bare engine is bullet & bomb proof but as suspected the electronics let the side down badly.

I'm hooked on doing Ebay searches on the spares or repairs pages & spend hours looking at the failures that appear on there but you do learn an awful lot about weaknesses of various manufacturers as certain vehicles appear time & time again. You also have to take into account the amount of vehicles sold, after all Honda sell far fewer vehicles than Ford.

i think of vauxhalls as being like disposable razors. fine if there is nothing better but deteriorate from first use. then if scrapped in time before they rust away, they get turned into new disposable razors

We have a 1989 registered 1985 built Renault traffic t 1000. Petrol . has only failed a few m o TS due to a bit of welding. Or a track rod end. Just minor things. Engine uses no oil. No leaks or drips. Never let me down. Used everyday. Only vehicle. People laugh about traffics but this is my third. And when you look around their are so many about. Needed a headlight last year. GSF car parts no problem. Off to Holland mid Dec till mid Jan. No worries

when they first came out, a close friend of mine bought 2 traffics for his business and they were off the road more than on. a favourite was drive shafts popping out on corners

My last 2 Mercedes (I've had 7 new ones 6 E class 1 C class) were the worst cars I've had the misfortune too own.

E 270 cdi spent more time being repaired than driven.

C200 Kompressor brakes failed 3 times a death trap.

Any Merc built after 2005 seem to be very poor build quality. Never bought another.

1999 to 2003 were the worst cars M B built. Managing director at the time was an accountant. He cut costs to the core,,,ruined their reputation. BUSBY.

I have a fifteen year old Astra,,,94000 on the clock. Had it 4 years and never had a moments bother. Would drive it any where without hesitation. No plans to part with it any time soon as its so simple.BUSBY.

I used to have a Skoda Estelle (the one they made all the jokes about before the VW days). It was a super little car and I drove thousands of miles in it. Routine maintenance was cheap and quick and it never needed anything else doing. Built like a tank as the guy who wrote it off found out.

We have had 8 citroens over the years, latest is a C5 tourer. None have let us down, except for a CX Gti that suffered from a bad ignition coil once, but at 10 years old, it didn't do badly.
We were thinking of buying a French registered Citroen car or van last year, but they all seemed to have huge mileages, 250000km was not uncommon, so they can't break down that much.
