I am having a hard time with the spell check on fun , it’s all over the place / a mind of it’s own , I thought it was possibly a google or safari update SO I tried other forums & I don‘t get the same problems , is anybody else having these problems . or have any ideas what’s going on ?

Yes it’s been like it for a quite a while. Randomly adding capital letters, behaving as if a deleted word or few letters is still there and adding on what I type next, often not picking up the words I choose from the suggestion bar above the keyboard, stuff like that. As you say, it’s only here. we noticed it on the Morning Thread.
I thought it was my iPad at first but others had the same problem. We just live with it.
Having said all that, it seems much better this morning. Maybe Jim has been tweaking!

The forum hasn’t got a spell checker but xenforo doesn’t like iPads 👀

Editing text for a post is harder than it should be.
The enter key often also deletes the last edit AND lose the capital letter for the new line.
Easy to reproduce.
1. Write a new sentence.
2. See a mistake in it.
3. Correct mistake.
4. Touch the screen to go back where you need to continue writing.
5. Hit enter
6. The correction at step 3 goes. and usually there’s only a lower case letter on the new line.

Doesn’t happen on other forum’s background software.

My spelling is like that anway. Not that I'm a bad speller I just type too fast and half the time don't go back and correct. I'm not a huge grammar policeman anyway, and just like text messages, as long as people can understand what you write doesn't worry me.

If I was writing a book then Id probably take more care.

⬆️ this.
Plus random capitals and sometimes not recognising that I select words from the frequently used bar.

Same here. So i looked at the settings and it turns out that I have two keyboards, the Samsung one and the Google one. Don't get on well with anything Google so i set the Samsung one, but still had problems with the random deletions and entries. So I turned off the automatic correction feature but kept automatic spelling check on. It works much better with no random entries, especially in this particular post. So don't blame the MHF site.
The Samsung keyboard also has () and ? ! @ % & easily accessible without having to switch to another layout and all of this was done with no more than 3 taps for any word.
Not sure if Samsung are harvesting all my typing errors as Google do, but they may not know its me as I've deleted my Samsung cloud accounts, ( but in any case Microsoft seems to have taken them over. )

But the steps in #12 don't create a problem on other forum hosts.
Why couldn't it be a server side feature/bug issue? ;)

But handy to see what client side changes you found made improvements in Android (or is Samsung propriety? 🤷‍♂️ )
But on other sites & applications maybe it's nice to have all the auto tools.
Rather than nobble them here 🤔

I use SwiftKey, it's a great layout and there are arrow keys to move the cursor about. I hate having to try and place it on a small screen.

Doesn't happen on my Ipad. 85% of my posts are made on an iPad.

This is the editor that xF uses. Can you reproduce your issues there?

I nearly tried the test - on my work laptop.
You're pointing me to the "Inline Demo" just passed 1/2 down, right?

I use an iPad mini 4 and the repro steps were a live check as I wrote the post.
We're really getting quite hardware specific now
I'll try the froala test later (I shd be productive at my job 1st ;) )

Yes. I can repro the “enter for new line un-does the last edit” issue in the live demo on that froala site 🤔

‘Maybe Jim has been tweaking!’.....

.....and I bet you wrote ‘twerking’, didn’t you?!? ;) :giggle:
After what I just read about Jims news I reckon he might even be twerking !!!

Google is American, the answer.

It will ;)
There must be a trigger event.
Like there already being a carriage return or two.
In your repro, try a second word alteration after the initial one.
I tried taking screenshots.
Had a quick look at a screen recorder. Didn't see one 'built in'.

If you've written a decent amount of text in a forum reply - with mistakes - you will be cursing :o

70% of the text imput here today will be by ios device. I cannot reproduce your problem. on an iPad or a IPhone.

However, Ive been on a forum owners forum and there have been a few reports of similar issuse with captitalisation being lost when return is pressed, but for everyone who says there is an issue, 10 say it's OK for them, so its one of those that is hard to nail down. I'll ask investigate further. Thanks fo the head up, and thanks Scotch mist

I lose capitalisation when hitting return, happens every other time (one line caps on, one line caps off and so on)
