I won't be a surprise from my avatar that I'm not a slow driver when in a car.

I tend to always be a "bit" over the speed limit on the open road, on motorways I tend to think that 70 means more like 80

A quite twisty A road in open country tends to make me think of a race track, but know the limits, speeding is speeding but know when its going to far.

30 in a village or town means 30, 40 means 40 except past Althrorp which was 60 till Diana died and then the limit dropped to 40 because of the tourist, but years after the tourist left they never changed it back.

But today I took swmb for a drive to relieve her stress of being home for months.

Not being on the open road for ages, it seems i've missed the memo that said Do What the hell you like.

Driving on a single carriage way I felt I was holding people up at 65.

In a village while doing about 30 with the obvious 30 mph limit I was overtaken by an HGV

On an open single carriageway in open countryside I was pushing the law at about 65, more than one car past me as if I was standing still, one was clearly in excess of 100 mph.

At one point I had a ford pick up almost pushing me through villages, once out of the built up areas I gentle pushed the accelerator and easily pull away from him , then settled down about 65, only to have hime catch up after a time and again push me on the straights, I'd loose him in the twisty bits and again slow down in villages only to have him on my back again.

On a particular road we saw a group of motorbikes giving it large, which I'm a fan of but christ theres a point where your going too far

I'm not a slow driver by any means, but have things really changed so much since I've been locked down?

How about you get a dash cam & send all the evidence to the police - cos moaning/ranting about it on Motorhome Fun is probably not going to make much of a difference ?

I am looking to buy used stingers to deploy on our 30mph built up road

there are some complete knobs driving around now ?

Let them gob off then say send me the bill for the tyres , I will see you in court

this is of course my gin infused attitude but they really piss me off, they go past too fast to chuck something at them, Stingers included ?

Yes. And helmets for bikers are optional - as observed more than once around my neck of the woods.

I aint moaning, I have a dash cam, I just don't understand why the limits of sensible speeding seemed to have changed

How was that ranting and raving it was just a pleasant enough observation. I take it that the smiley ment it tounge in cheek.

Well I for one have done that when a van traveling in the opposite direction hit our Motorhome, had to report it online which we did, on March 16th still not heard a jot, total waste of time, they earn more from speed cameras, and that is a fact, because it has happened to us !

I wasn't suggesting people should be nicked, we were in a sports car and enjoying being on the road again, we went for a reasonably long drive, had breakfast by a lake and to be honest opened the valves and let her roar a bit.

But I don't get why people have seem to think that villages with 30 limits etc don't count any more.

Last year I was on a drive with a load of super cars, and yes we broke the speed limit at times, but NOT past villages and schools etc

OK you owe me that from earlier. fair play.

But I guess you like me tend to love sped, but I also guess you know when to knock it back

As i said, I almost always push the limit, no defence there, but being passed in a 30 by a truck doing over 40 is not on

People driving too fast in a 30mph zone aren't my problem & I certainly don't let them hustle me along any quicker, in fact slowing down a bit is a lot more fun, so you see, driving can still be fun without breaking the law?

Let me play devils advocate, not aimed at anyone on particular, just an observation.

Speeding is illegal & can I push this point a bit further?

Supposing you've been on some form of social media, moaning about speed limits & claiming that you tend to break the speed limit, with me so far?

A few months later, your unlucky enough to hit a pedestrian (now I wouldn't wish that on anyone) & that unfortunate pedestrian dies.
The traffic police decide that you've been travelling at 38 mph & charge you with causing death by dangerous driving, it happens dozens of time every day right here in the UK.

Now its another few months down the line & you appear in court, the CPS lawyer gets up to ask you some questions, he/she then asks if your a member of the forum where you've posted the rather rash & unnecessary comment.
So they keep on the back of the accused & remind you of what you've written, your knees begin to go wobbly as you look at the faces of the twelve people on the jury, then you glance around the court & the feeling is that everyone is glowering at you.

Your found guilty & as happens these days, your sent to jail for 6 years, you'd have many hours in your cell to rue the rash statement which you made all those years ago.

That road has always been a racetrack, I have dragged many cars from the pub that was on the buckby turn next to Duckworths house, haddon road was similar and you just avoided the bramptons when all the 'businessmen' were coming home

You do realise you are on a site where no member would ever dare to break the speed limit ! Shame on you???

getting you point, I guess theres a difference between driving a 650s and a motorhome. But the point I was trying to make seems to be presented to the wrong audience.

NO but driving faster than the speed limit in BUILT UP AREA used to be a no no, but NOW it seems fine

And I think that wrong

First time I went out after lockdown started I felt like I'd driven into the Wild West. Utterly senseless driving. I was observing the limit (coz I'm a good little girlie ?) and car after car overtook me as if I were at a standstill.
Admittedly my little run about is almost as old as I am and we neither of us can run as fast as we'd been built for. But still... the lunatics had escaped from the asylum.
Back then I was hopeful the fad would fade.
Evidently not.
I think that's why I love my big beastie. I may have to drive considerably slower than I'd like but my view from up here is a damn sight better than theirs and I can see that cyclist on the brow of the hill....

That does depend if there is such a thing as sensible speeding. There was a recent thread where some to***"r was shouting at a bloke in a camera van sounds like we need a few more

For future reference:
I dont speed. I once went 31 mph in a 30 in 1987 and have never forgiven myself.
I also indicate at every roundabout, check my mirror every 4th second, take extra care when turning left after being static at traffic lights, check all over the vehicle before every journey without fail so if something has gone wrong it happened on that journey and i hold the right to claim everything else I havent thought of.

Thanks for the hint. :giggle:

And you have time to come on this forum? ?

While the cat's away the mice will play

Lack of enforcement, perhaps even more lacking while the fuzz are patrolling the Parks and enforcing social distancing.

I can't say I've noticed more speeding going on round here. Ton-plus takes place mostly along the bypass where there are no speed cameras. That's a mile long dual carriageway between roundabouts at which point the speed limits go back down to 40 which is still a bit high for a give way approach and encourages drivers to take chances. We do see some crashes at the roundabouts. Cars in the barriers, or skip lorries and concrete mixer trucks overturned, for recent examples. Traffic seems a lot lighter than before.

That bypass links two built up areas. I can understand some drivers and bikers venting their frustration. There's a bend in the middle with a nasty bump that bottoms then unloads the suspension, so in the wet it can be quite hazardous for speeders. Motorbike fatalities are not uncommon. Sadly.

If they sit on my tail pipe I go slower, and slower . They won’t pay my fines or take my points so bollocks to them.
Quite right. What is the safe speed for a situation where the car behind you is half a car-length away? As a responsible driver that's the speed you should drive at.
