I recently changed van from coach-built to PVC (Kemerton). My insurance is through Comfort and includes breakdown cover, but as the new van is max 3500kg and is less than 6mt long and 2.2mt wide, it seems to fit in with the AA terms and conditions. As I already have AA cover for the cars, do you think it is worth getting specialist motor-home recovery.

Hi John,
I'd say probably not, if the vehicle fits with in the wording on AA recovery/relay policy, I would think they are bound to honour it;

I could possibly see a rub if, as what happens at times, they get an agent, ie recovery firm working for AA, to attend..........although, even there, with any call out I've had with AA, one of their smaller roadside assistance guys/gals attends first, so following recovery unit would know just what it was they'd be dealing with.

I use to have a 15cwt wartime british military truck, ......2 ton unladen three and a half gross, the Very odd occasion I needed recovery, once by AA proper, no probs, the other time by sub contractor....who ummed and arr'ed,.......until I contacted AA direct who spoke to him....turned out they hadn't given him all vehicle details, after that all ok.

Guess it wouldn't hurt contacting them direct and asking, giving them all the weights etc.

Thanks for that Andy, Think I will give them a ring, I don't see the point of paying twice for the same service if I don;t need to.

if it is included in your insurance I do not see what saving you will make

or are you proposing changing insurers as well?

Thanks for the replies guys, the reason I asked was insurance is due and as usual I will be phoning for quotes. Breakdown cover can be included in most policies, but at extra cost. I phoned AA today and they confirm my van will be covered by my AA cover, so I can now get quotes without breakdown cover and see how they compare.
