I'm a newbie
Hi to everyone, we have just aquired our 2019 Bailey 79-4 from Elite Motorhomes in Banbury, all good so far , just wondering about the puncture situation if it occurs, it is advisable to carry a spare wheel & tyre or some sort of repair kit?

Hi, now you done it!!! ;);)

theres loads of threads on this and loads of opinions.....

including some recovery companies wont attend punctures / blow outs if no spare is carried.
happy reading..

If you can fit one, do so. But it isn't a legal requirement and you should check your payload first. If you don't have one, you'll need a puncture repair kit. But don't expect it to do anything useful. Remember that in some countries, the tyre has to match brand on the same axle.

You should have had a repair kit supplied as a minimum if there is no spare, it usually consists of an aerosol of gunge that you squirt into a punctured tyre and blow it up. The gunge blocks the hole from the inside so you can get to a garage. Problem can be that the tyre may be rendered unrepairable due to the gunge.
If you has a spare tyre/wheel have you somewhere to put it?

Bought ours from Elite and took them up on the gel that sits in the tyre. Already saved us from one puncture (see previous thread) and still going strong.

I would never wish to be without a spare wheel / tyre for two reasons.
1. Having a tyre go down in a car, I was unsure about using the repair kit. The AA arrived and told me that the tyre would need replacing if I had used it.
2. I gained a hole in the wall of a tyre in Spain, no repair goo could have fixed it but fortunately I had seen and bought an identical wheel and tyre at a Motorhome Show just a few weeks earlier.
The extra tyre does add weight but I would not be without one now.

Just fitted a spare wheel winch to the Fiat CCS chassis, bought the full kit and spare wheel with a camper tyre for just under £200. Saving a fortune on the dealer price. Very simple job it sits directly behind the rear axle.
Now I can ditch the pump and gunk repair kit, incidentally the tool kit under the passenger seat contains everything you need to remove the spare. 👍

Reference the Bailey motorhome you need to look underneath at the cross members as it may not be possible to fit a carrier, it depends if it has a cut out type, if you take a picture I can advise.

You'll need the underslung carrier designed for the Alko chassis that the Bailey has. I got mine from outdoor bits and bought the steel wheel and tyre from eBay. Took about 90 mins to fit. If you do need to use the spare call your recovery service to change the wheel for you - the jack supplied with the van isn't very safe or stable.

Brand new spare wheel with new CP tyre 15” £99. New wheel carrier £96. Pm if you require further info, the quote from dealer was £500 fitted lol

Just about to order the carrier from Coastal Motorhomes, and the spare wheel and tyre as you have, for our new van based on the 2020 Ducato. 15” steel, where did you get the cover please? (y)

They came in the kit with the carrier I just knocked them in after a little altering with a drill bit.

Did you get fitting instructions? Ordered yesterday afternoon, arrived today, but no fitting guide.

I bought a carrier from Alko specifically for my Bailey 79-4T and got a local MH dealers workshop to fit it for me - Marques at Tewkesbury. They quoted about an hours labour but took them nearly 2. I watched from a distance and it appeared to involve quote a bit of effort to fit even with the vehicle up on a ramp although the mechanic did appear to refer to some included instruction.
