Well travelled
We are thinking of travelling down to see youngest and grandchild in Hereford later in the year, July probably. We would also like to travel along south coast possibly into Kent to see Biggin Hill, Canterbury etc.

Would we be able to pitch up at campsites to stay for a night or will they be all booked up ? Sounds daft asking but we haven't been down there before and keep reading about sites being booked up in advance.

Lovely site at Hythe, Dalescres. Does get booked up in school holidays but midweek usually good. Romney Marsh & Hythe miniature steam railway gives a lovely trip out to Dungeness. Dover Castle and Leeds Castle also great. Good site at Canterbury with bus stop outside into centre. again need to book ahead.

There's a good few CCC temporary holiday sites around that area July/August

Would I be better joining a club ? if so which one ?

Have a look at each ones temporary holiday sites and see which ones suit the best. Get the Search for Sites app which shows all types of sites on it’s app, on a map, and then maybe decide.

I think that for the price of a second club subscription (not that much more than the price of one night on a commercial holiday site in the summer), it is worth expanding your options and joining both main clubs.

I think you should find spaces if you book now/soon. I don't know much about sites in U.K or those near me in Sussex but I've just booked 5 days at the CAMC site at Bearsted (Nr Maidstone, Kent) for June to attend a flying event. I think you could have difficulty if you leave it til June to book but I'm only guessing as no-one really knows for certain what effect this Staycation summer will have.
I believe you can review sites and availability at CAMC sites without being a member but obviously only a member can log in to book them.

TIP
No deposits are required by the CAMC so I've booked a couple of CAMC sites on the basis that if I can go abroad I can cancel the CAMC bookings with impunity up to 72 hours prior.

Have a look at Rye it is very nice, there is a CL site within walking distance, alternatively there is a car park near the Strand which you can park overnight for £10.

The postcode is TN31 7UL, it is in a neighbouring village called Plyaden, a mile wander into Rye, it is a Camping & Caravan Club CL ( The Old Dairy ), the car park I mentioned is on postcode TN31 7EL Hope this helps.
