Hi all,

We are going touring the North East of England in July and were wondering if anyone has any recommendations for sites in the South of Northumberland? We are meeting friends in Whitby for 1 night and then heading North but we’d ideally only like to drive for about an hour to an hour and a half.

TIA

You'll be lucky to get to Tyneside in an hour and a half from Whitby.

On and off for many years.
Once north of Newcastle the roads become, how can I say this, less crowded but slower with the exception of parts of the A1.

There are roadworks on the A1 just north of Newcastle so you may prefer to go up the A19 and through the tunnel (not forgetting to pay either online or via a paypoint shop, you get 24 hours or pay in advance). The A19 rejoins the A1 just south of Morpeth.
