After watching a few programmes on central and South America, I got to wondering about touring there as it looks stunning.
It`s only a pipe dream really as I doubt the OH would go along with it and probably couldn`t take the dog, so that may rule it out anyway :(
But does anyone know of a good place for information, maybe someone`s travel blog ?
In my dream I buy a used van in USA and head south into Mexico then Panama, Columbia, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina then I wake up in a lockdown.

There is a company that runs a 6 month motorhome tour each year. Take your own van and must be max 30 feet in length. Google it and you will find them

Wasn't there a thread running last year ,some prospective funster couple who had bought a van in that end of the world ?
Had a few teething troubles.
Wonder where they are now?

We have achieved the first bit of your pipe dream and the last bit. The middle bit will have to wait. See my as yet unfinished post, USA road trip.

I am sure I have seen something online or in print, (maybe Nat Geo?) about a couple who went from Alaska to the "Horn" in an R-V.?? It`s called the "Pan American Highway"?.

Here you go:-

Don’t let the armchair ne’er sayers dampen your curiosity..... lots are exploring this vibrant corner of the planet. We recently spent seven weeks travelling through Colombia (not in the Moho) and had an amazing/ safe adventure from Medellin into the Coffee Triangle and up to the Caribbean.

There are lots of blogs and websites. Message me and I’ll route some out for you.

Are you watching race across the world it's really entertaining. They have already had to avoid political unrest a couple of times but fantastic scenery

There's a rather lovely Dutch girl called Noraly who has a channel on youtube called Itchy Boots, she's doing a round the world adventure on a motorcycle, Series 1 was her going out to India buying a Royal Enfield Himalaya bike and riding it back through all sorts of countries that most of us probably wouldn't go too, anyway series 2 is Patagonia to Alaska although currently she has been repatriated back to Holland from Peru because of lockdown, you might enjoy watching her VLOG (which is in English) of her journey so far. She is a remarkable young lady and she reports the good and the bad.

Series 2 starts here

or if you want to start at the very beginning here

We did Overlanding with Dragoman back in 2000-2001.
10 weeks Ecuador to Chile via Bolivia and Peru
Preceded by a month in the USA, New York to LA.
(Down the Atlantic coast, along the Gulf coast and up the Pacific coast)

We had looked at taking our Landie and doing end to end, but the economics just did not stack up

Now with the benefit of hind-site, and having met a number of end-to-enders whilst en route, we did it the right way, we saw a lot more, we paid a lot less, and had a lot more fun

You would need to do a lot of research on where was safe. Mexico has some real no go areas because of the drug wars and some of the other countries have major problems such as Venezuela. I lived for seven months in Belize and drove into the Yucatan region of Mexico, a great trip but this was 40 years ago so things might have changed! But I suspect the roads may not so you would really need a 4x4.

Going south from there is possible but you can't drive into South America because of the Darien Gap. Your vehicle would have to be shipped by sea around the coast at this point.

My suggestion would be to forget the RV idea and just backpack it, perhaps renting a car in the countries you want to visit so you can explore more easily.

Have a look at .....

One option is to buy a used vehicle out there from someone who has finished their trip.

I think maybe USA and Canada may be a better option all things considered ?
I've not even done with Europe yet so it'll probably stay a pipe dream for now I think.
Thanks for your input everyone.
This lockdown has a strange effect on one's thinking o_O
