Any one else thinking of Sorning their motorhome????

Thinking about it.....

Not got anything planned till middle of February...

Then just a quick run up to "Ull" to have an "A" frame fitted to our new acquisition..

If I do it will save me over £50.......... I am an OAP and have to watch my spending... :frowny:

Definitely 👍 it takes 2 minutes and you get a cheque in the post 😍 ours is usually about 70 quid ❤️

Left it too late to book my MOT - three weeks ago. Earliest date available 4 November ! Doesn’t run out until the 10th but I wanted to get it done early.

Not us Mo, full calendar then off to Spain in Dec. Is the heating broke? Get it used man 👍

Never do as if not using the van it does it good to take it out for a run every few weeks.
I would never leave a van sitting unused for a couple of months too much risk of expensive damage.

Not me Mo could never see any logic in it. The van is there to use if you want it on a sunny autumn/spring day. £50 that is not even a pound a week. Pull yourself together man....;):giggle:

Annie,

You don't need the vehicle to be taxed to take it to the MOT Station.
If that's all the usage the van will get in November, get it SORNed.

Ours is parked in the garage for 5+ months every year for the last 7 years. Hasn't harmed it so far, even the tyres don't move. It's all hearsay IMO
You have just been lucky, not worth the risk with the cost of repairs these days also I can't see the point of having a Motorhome if you are not going to use it for over 5 months of the year.

The only time we've SORNed the MH was during lockdown when we couldn't get out and about. Living by the coast we didn't need to do day trips!

Tend to use it all year round as far as possible. Plan on using it a couple of times over the next few weeks and then off to France for a month in December.

Did it once and then had to unsorn due to a family emergency :(

So SORN during one month and unSORN the following month :(

I'm just wondering what damage could you do to a vehicle if you don't use it for say 3 to 4 months? That's assuming it has been laid up correctly of course.

Some say tyre flat spots, condensation in the engine or fuel tank, errrrr fuel going off... Mice... There'll be plenty more.

Didn’t know that- thanks. Hoping to use it later but hubby resisting. Only MO T slot is 7am

Brake caliper sized, thrust release bearing sized, clutch sized, bores drained of oil so excessive wear on start up. That's just a few oylther component prone to failure like the alternator, moisture gets in and never drys out.

Mo, no we never sorn our van Eddie reckons taking it out for a run every 2/3 weeks keeps it alright and I can't argue with that as the van is now 21 years old and we have had so little trouble with it touch wood this method seems to work, and it is quite nice to go out for a run in the van throughout the winter weather permitting.

Phew that's some list, have to say I've never had any of those things give trouble in all of motoring days, certainly not after 3/4 months maybe after 12 months i could see that but hey ho we all look after our motors in different ways.

Keep the fuel tank full to prevent that happening, as for mice they can move in over night if they want, we had a full birds nest built under the bonnet in an afternoon whilst camping in Scotland.
