When we bought our van we were told to make sure it was run out at least every 2-3 weeks in order to keep the filter clear in the euro engine, they said that just starting it wasn't enough so I will not be sorning mine as might cost more than £5 at the garage! We just take it a few miles down the A1 so will be fitting that in on Wednesday.

Think that the filter will be OK while it stands, what is not good is to start and allow to stand and run, with no load on it. So either start and take for a decent run to warm it through or leave it alone

Sometimes we only get £70 back but if you say on average £100 a year that's £600 saved since the van was new 💷😍

Lots but slow learner.
Still wont be SORNing the Mo Ho. I will give it a 10 mile run now and again. Ditto Bertie the Jag and the bike.

Took our van for a 30 mile run today with the intention of SORNing it. Got the self levellers down to take most of the weight off the tyres. The £152 we will save will help pay for the new TV we bought yesterday;)

My euro6 van was sat on the dealers forecourt for over 12 months before I bought it. I don't believe for one minute that they ever took it for a drive. How about yours?

The way I see it, vans aren't organic beings like us (even if you do give them a name 😁) they will sit on the drive with virtually no change in state for months, probably after years some things like the brakes will need attention, but they don't need to go to the gym to keep in shape like us. 😜

You do tend to get a flat spot on the tyres if not pumped up well above normal. Don't forget to reduce the pressure though when you do take it on the road.

I've never started any vehicle I've ever owned during a lay-up. Preparation is limited to filling the fuel tank, oil and filter change, and leaving the hand brake off. Longest (car) lay-up was 18 months. Van is usually out of use for about 3 months each year. No vehicle has suffered any ill effects. Starting without running long enough to completely clear any condensation is possibly the worst thing you can do.

My main concern was that during the first lockdown, our van suffered an almost flat battery twice and had to be taken for a run after being jump started.
On both occasions we got stopped by plod two miles from home (being in Wales we couldn't travel more than 5 miles without good cause) 'Where are you going sir?' and in my best Glasgow accent I replied, ' I'm gone hame'. 'And where is home?' he replied. 'Jist up there' I replied pointing up the hill.
'And where have you come from sir?' 'Jist up there'

So this year I decided to invest in a Vanbitz Battery Master which should solve the problem. Just plug the EHU in overnight every few weeks to keep both batteries topped up.
