Hi

Anyone fitted a Sony XAV-AX1000 radio?
Couple of questions re power supplies
On our van there is no acc position on the ignition switch 2014 x250
The manual says to connect both the yellow and red to the continuous power wire yellow
315037

This allows the radio to operate without the ignition on
Will this cause extra draw on starter battery when not in use? I appreciate that there is a fair bit of draw when switch on with engine off.
Also noticed that home button remains illuminated.
There doesn't appear to be an off switch as such or I'm I being a bit thick

Will use a tiny bit more for the LED, maybe 2ma? Not anything to worry about I would have thought... If it was me I'd measure it but I'm a bit obsessive ?

I've got the AX100, but the wiring is the same. I did have both the red (continuous) and yellow (ignition) wires on my 2007 x250. However, I've got the opposite problem that it's completely dead when the ignition is off and it keeps losing time every now and again. This is particularly annoying as Android Auto doesn't want to connect to a head unit that thinks it's 1990... although I've got no idea why AA would care?

Sorry, to your problem... I suspect that the current draw is pretty low when it's not actively playing music, but probably still enough to drain the battery after a couple of weeks. Is yours a Globecar? Is it possible that the wiring was mucked around with and the power is coming from the leisure battery?

Thanks folks
Mega quick response
It is a Globecar but I think the wiring to the radio is standard
Van had the standard fiat one up till now
If there is no real draw I,m ok or if need be could fit switch into switch power wire.
Cant fit it properly till the new fascia arrives

If you've got solar get a Votronic duo solar controller they send a trickle charge to the starter battery. We use the cab radio now, no worries ?

Wire the ignition wire to a small dash switch that fed permanently then you can isolate the radio..

Connecting to hab battery could be done but a bit more of a faff
It also has a connection to the handbrake feed
I'm assuming this is to limit some of the option from the phone when on the move but Im not planning to bother with that at present
The manual is not that informative

If you don't connect the handbrake feed (so the connection stays open), it assumes that you are driving. While you are 'driving' you can't pair a new phone to the radio. It also limits the number of button presses you can make and temporary locks you out. Various other bits like the keyboard are also disabled. This is all supposed to be to stop you being distracted for too long while you're on the move. You can wire up the handbrake cable, but but it's quite a bit of faff. The easiest thing to do is just to ground it. I just connected it to the cage of the radio.

Thanks for that
I wasn't sure what it was all limiting
When we are out there's usually a co pilot anyway

Yeah, I rarely interact with it while we're moving, but Joolz likes to DJ. We do sometimes re-plan on the fly, so she can put in a new destination while we're moving.

Without connecting the handbrake wire to something, you can't even pair your phone. Initially I thought this was the only limitation, so I held the wire to ground with the facia in bits while I did the pairing, then buttoned it all up. Only later did I realise other issues

Connect the red wire to the live feed for the cigarette lighter, its fused and ignition controlled.

Checked with Sony
Even though they have the sketch that's in my first post in the manual they advise it will run down the battery
As I want to be able to use the radio when parked up I need to do it this way but with the addition of a switch on the red wire to isolate the power other than for the memory when not in use.
No big deal but a proper on/off button on the radio would have been simpler.

I always wire my stereos to the hab battery via the distribution unit (EBL) as TV sound etc., is fed through it.
The handbrake wire just needs to be earthed I connected mine to the back case of the unit.

That would work but I would still need to fit the extra switch
We don't often have the radio on when parked up but still want the option

If wired to the leisure battery why do you need a switch?
There unit will draw power there is not off switch as such
If you had a traditional ignition switch it would power down when the engine is switched off or if key was in acc position it would power down when key removed.
I think its designed to be powered by default when engine running for phone operation and revers camera to come on automatically when revers engaged.
Not sure I'm making total sense here

ps Lenny like your tag line
Six more work days then Im retired

Make sure you leave the memory power wire (red I think) connect or you will loose any tuned radio stations.

Standard fiat wiring should have the 2 live feeds, my globecar has them, It also has the dimmer connection for when the headlights are on. Having said all that I wired mine to the leisure battery for extended use with engine off.

Ours is the same but one is only powered when the engine is running
The standard Fiat radio is powered through the bus system on the van
