We have 2 weeks off work over Christmas/New year, and would like to travel into Europe. Can anyone recommend either a tour (max 2hrs driving per day) or somewhere to head for. Would preferably like some pretty Christmassy places, or places with anything interesting going on. Never been abroad in MH, or travelled in extreme weather, so be gentle with us.

We stayed at Camping Vinkenhof, about a half hour walk from Valkenberg in the summer, nice site and the next door restaurant was superb.

Alsace, most towns around that part of the Rhine have Christmas markets going into the New Year. Strasbourg, Colmar, Baden Baden all pretty to visit and plenty of stellplatze open.

We briefly passed through the area around Bodensee (Lake Konstanz) then drove up through the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) a few weeks ago and were impressed enough to want to return next year for a longer stay. It's on the German/Swiss/Austrian border.

If you're visiting the Eastern side of France, Dijon has a certain something about it. If you go to Strasbourg be sure to wander into the Petite France district.

One thing to watch in countries with Christmassy mountain scenery is that winter tyres may be compulsory in certain months.

Unlikely as it's not that mountainous and the main routes would be cleared fairly quickly, we had winter tyres last Christmas and carried snow socks but did not need them at all.

We're spending Christmas at Obernai in Alsace on the site. Quite Christmasy there, a decent market etc. We'll have a quick trip into Germany before we get there on the 23rd December. As for chains, we took those last year plus snow socks, never had to use them.
