I cannot fathom it, but there must be a reason. Why do so many French bournes have the fresh water tap so low down and baulked by a great steel ring, as in this photo?

I knew it would be obvious. Just never occurred to me that someone would do something so disgusting.....

Have you not been to France before?
Yes, but not in a motorhome. While we're on the subject of unsavoury habits, nothing against France or the French, but it appears the concept of picking up dog litter has not made much progress here.

Depends on the area some places have dispensers with free poo bags.

Yeah, we've seen a few, but quite rare. Generally a lot more dog mess on pavements than we're used to seeing. Shame. But we still love it here.

They could do with some of those in Spain. I've seen a lot of people empty a toilet cassette then put the mouth of it over the drinking tap to rinse it out. Another favourite is not lifting a grate to empty a cassette then walk off leaving turds on the floor.

On the subject of dogs, the Spanish seem to like leaving poo anywhere and everywhere.

Have you not been to France before or just not used Aires before?
The French think nothing of using the same water tap for drinking water and their cassette and the put the tap spout right into the cassette!
Always clean the tap well before using it!

Don't have to go to France to see loads of richards on the pavement. Scarborough has to be well up there as one of the worst dog turd minefields.

I haven't worried about that sort of thing since taking a drink of ice cold water from a stream whilst on exercises in the Brecon Beacons.
We followed the stream up the hill and found a dead sheep in it! Needless to say we felt a little light headed later but we got over it...

Walking up a steep valley in Spain with loads of remains of water mills there was a trough beside the path with flowing water that in the past fed the mills. Wife had a nice refreshing drink.
A couple of miles later the water had bubbles in it, when we reached the village at the top of the valley there was an elderly woman washing what looked like the husband smalls in the wash house, guess when the water ran out of the wash house to.

Perhaps you now understand why so many motorhomer's only drink bottled water! Despite signs telling people not to rinse their cassettes at the fresh water tap, I found a few times if it was mentioned to the guilty parties they only gave the Gallic shrug and said they didn't drink water from their tanks.

At Hartsholme campsite Lincoln, plenty of bins but plenty dog shit left by the great British public. They don't seem to understand their pets can't pick it up.

Poor bloody campsite owners. At the risk of initiating a dogpoo thread..its kind of unforgiveable .
Dogs do poo, its a fact.
carry a spare bag in your phone case or wallet or purse, you always have that with you.
If you dont have one, at the very least kick or flick it away from paths and where kids play.
I regularly pick up an ‘extra’ poo in the park, especially the big ones, mainly cause I’d hate someone to think my (Big)dog was the chav that did it or I was a crappy thoughtless owner…!

I agree that it would be better if owners did not rinse cassettes at fresh water taps, or if they do hold them under and clear from the tap.

However as it does seem to happen I think that it is worth considering the geometry of the tap: the cassette nozzle can only come into contact with the tap thread and one's hose only connects to the thread; the water flows from the inside of the tap into the inside of the hose.

I think the possibility of direct contact of water with cassette germs, if there are any, is minimal and even less so with further cross-contamination.

I think the perception that it happens is worse than the reality.

There will be other opinions.

I have twice been in the proverbial when with dogs and no poo bags, the first time I used a tissue to pick it up and transport it to a bin and the second time I used a face mask. If I had absolutely nothing suitable I would ask another dog owner for a bag. Leaving it for someone to step on is gross.
