On and off for many years.
Just had a message from my antivirus provider that some google play apps have been infected with malware. A bit late to tell me as Martin just downloaded stuff from the Play store yesterday and it was infected. I've spent all morning clearing his laptop and it is still playing up.

Everytime he opens a browser his PC connects to a site and tries to download stuff. Luckily his antivirus is picking it up but I can't clear the auto connect stuff - yet.

The app he downloaded was i-cinema...... it's malware so don't install it.

If it is a Google app what is it doing on his pc? Or do you mean a tablet?

Just checked and it seems to be a pc problem, not an Android thing.

interestingly, my security gave me a similar message but said the apps have been pulled by Google and that the definition of malware is that the app charges you for things the system already does for free.

Glad no one else got caught if they have pulled them.

Martin installed it because a friend had told him that it was a legal way to download and watch films and the friend's sons were watching films they had downloaded using the plug-in. He should have checked, I should have known as it sounded too good to be true.

At least his laptop seems to be working okay again. It took me most of the day and several different clean-up programs to get rid of the pesky thing.

From what I understand Google are quite good at pulling rogues.. at least you got it cleared up anyway.. last time my OH downloaded one of the 'your pc is infected' things I had to wipe it and reinstall it. She had lost her MS office key and we haven't got it back yet..
