I removed the old soler panil from the roof thinking nothing to lose i dicided to take the box off the back as sum of the parts might come in handay wasent paying much atention to it after but the wee man was when he prudly pronunced grandad yes jay.
i put the meter on thos wiers it saying 14.75 what dose that mean it means it working bud
I carrys on doing what i am doing grandad so why are you throwing it away when its working.
the penny droped nips over blodey hell its working scraching head.
i have revoved the box with the diod test diod both ways nothing.
diod is knakerd not the panil now have three wiers and dont know what thay do well i have worked out that the read is live blue nutral but what abut the black one it dosent seem to do any thing even the buding electrichian is stumped
cand any one help to identifi it

Probably just the wire used Bill....3 core instead of twin.
Panels only have a live + and earth -.

If the sun was shining on the panel the voltage on the wires should be around 17 to 21volts.
Anything less indicates a faulty panel.
It only reduces to 13 to14 Volts AFTER the solar controller.

Worth checking Bill.

Chances are it was just the diode blocking outward voltage as well.

Not up on electronics but I thought if a diode failed it simply allowed current to flow both ways as if it wasn't there....Probably wrong.

As I thought....it will allow current in both directions according to this website.

Diodes can fail open or closed, soi might just be the diode.

i cant read the nombers on the diod what one shuld i get for a 160 wat sytem

15 AMP should do it Bill....
Don't forget to solder it in the right way round.

Diodes, I believe, are rated in amps, not watts.

If ithe soler panal is not to good it gowing on the weemans den i got two new lesure baterys the other day as one of the baterys wen down.
so the one that is still good will power the den linked up to the soler panile with a controler
