Morning all,

I have a Swift 597 with standard set up, 100w panel and 100ah battery. I have installed a Victron MPPT 30a controller and looking to add more panels and battery to use more off grid. I have a fair amount of roof space to add additional panels and was thinking of possibly 2 x 200w? along with a 200ah ish battery.
Any recommendations on this please?

TA Steve

Is your battery LiFePO4? If not, that would make a huge difference in storage capacity as well as weight (approx half the weight and double the usable capacity for the same rating). It also depends what you are using your power for. High-current demand such as microwaves, hair-driers and so on would suit a LiFePO4 battery better, as these usually have a high discharge capacity.

If fitting a LFP battery, you would also want to consider fitting a battery to battery (B2B) charger at the same time, which will replenish your LFP rapidly while you drive.

Extra solar panels will also be useful, but again, it depends on your demand needs. We have 120W of solar, 100Ah of LFP and a B2B and we never need to use EHU.

Id second lithium idea if budget allows and yes 400w can go through the 100/30. (max 440)

If you may be thinking of adding more panels later then the 100-50 controller is needed;

Another question to consider is, do you want to just use your existing electrical devices, but for a longer time off-grid. Or are you intending to add more devices, like ebike charging, microwave etc? Once you start thinking about an inverter, then lithium batteries start looking like a good option.
