Currently £11.49 delivered on Amazon
With just a simple modification - it is quite malleable aluminium - we have bent over the back section to enable it to be hooked into the grille on the panel just below the awning - see photos attached. We attach this on arrival at site & detach for travelling - it is very effective & lights on on opening the hab door (good position on our Chausson), when approaching the motorhome & when moving around outside. Only downside is if it is under an extended awning it loses charge after a couple of days but soon remedied by putting in the sun for a few hours:) If you don't have a grille in a suitable place then probably not much use (unless you can think of another removeable weatherproof method of attaching the light?) but may be great for those that do!

At that price :)could buy 2 & have spare one charging up or give one to a friend?!
Might be worth checking that the cheaper one is aluminium as although the photos look similiar if it is steel it could be heavier (more potential risk of damage to the grille) & more difficult to bend?

Tried to modify the above light with stick on magnetic strip but won't stay on the side of our metal van conversion :( - could try stronger magnets but could still fly off & do damage if windy whereas hooked into our Chausson coachbuilt vent previously it was very secure.
Has anyone found a good magnetic PIR light either solar or USB rechargeable that is suitable for use on the exterior of a van? Also any affordable & ideally solar stick lights to use on camping pitch?

Have ordered an Eco Wedge solar PIR external light http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-5...0001&campid=5338547443&icep_item=293541135934 £18.95 delivered going via Quidco to eBay for a tiny bit of cashback as it all adds up. Cheaper versions are available but this make & model is sold by solar shops & has good reviews for home use so would hope it is reasonable quality. Will attach the magnetic sheeting that we already have & see how it works.

Think for our painted metal van magnetic & removable (so long as we remember to take if off!) is preferable but may be an idea for some.

It works really well!
🙂
The unit is very light so just added some black self adhesive magnetic sheet which we had left over from another mod. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/1443496818?iid=332715588751 to the whole of the back of it but other magnetic options are available. Will add some photos of it on the van when next back out of storage.
The light has a push button to set to off, permanently on or sensor so handy as an outdoor or awning light as well as for added security.

I had someone once where I was suggesting that they kept their eyedrops in the fridge as they didn't like heat or light the answer back of course was " but my fridge had a light in it."..doh

Correction - push to turn off, high or low light setting not permanently on - should have read instructions before posting!

Using this in hot sunshine on the side of our metal motorhome the adhesive between the magnetic sheet & the light didn't work well but added some Loctite Superglue & all good. Works so well that bought another one & considering them for home use to replace the older larger ones we have.
Currently using discount code AUT the Eco Wedge is £16.99 delivered here https://www.thesolarcentre.co.uk/products/ECO_Wedge_XT_Solar_Motion_Welcome_Light-739-78.html

Tried to find a better picture but failed
The round dots are extra strong sticky back velcro (also in white) ebay.
Have /Had 2
The light is approx twice the length of op's. Solar & Switchable settings and 1 removable rechargeable battery. In back. £8.99 ebay
I adapted a 35mm film canister cut in half and Glued it around the pir tit
So the cap can be put on if traveling at night without bike on rack. Saves pulling off completely. Also pir activated rear camera
Lit up like Blackpool when triggered
Also velcro pads end of awning
