Solar Panel recommendations (1 Viewer)

Which brand of Solar panel are best or highly recommended and which source would you purchase them from

I’m going to used Victron for the MPPT controller and Smart shunt so i’m covered ok with those apart from the best source

Batteries are dual 95ah Lithium and i’m thinking 300/400 watt

Any recommendations would be great and these are for my new Rapido i1090 A class

sunshine solar Ive used 3 times and never had problems, Im not so techinical as to know exact outputs, but I had 300w feeding a 200ah lithium via Victron MPPT set up with b2b2 and was always powered up.

Ive just bought a new van (Rapido too) and will be replicating the set up, but adding 400w solar not 3

I bought my panels from Photonic Universe (German Mono cells apparently) along with a Victron Bluesmart MPPT controller.
All has worked very well for us thus far, even with 2 Varta 80AH Gels batteries from Tanya, we are never short of power, but we do not use or need an inverter, which many seem to think they need, but we can manage well on 12V for charging stuff, TV when needed on Mi Fi or hot spot.
New kid on the block for many van lifers, plus me in the future is Renogy, a US company that sells in The UK.

The best is hard to buy in single panel purchase, that would be Sunpower made in USA, second LG neon R, available on line or Bimble solar, next Panasonic HIT available online, ( ITS technologies?), or a middle ground Trina honey perk, available on line CCLComponents.
Just get one panel rated at 300 to 400w . These are good industrial panels for commercial and domestic applications; Plenty of choice. There are panels with 400w plus in a single panel nowadays, no point in going 2,3 or 4 panels, unless it’s a space issue.

Renogy i’ve looked at for my previous system and it looks good stuff with no or none that I can see negative reviews

I understand what you mean regards a large single panel but unfortunately not enough room

I have 2 favoured areas at the rear of the roof either side of the bedroom roof light, the areas are 160 x 96 and 160 x 87 cm’s and i’m not certain if that’s the useable area including the aero type mounts.

TBH i’d prefer 400W so ideally looking at 2 x 200W twin panels if I can find some good ones to use.

In that case, for such a tight space and big output you have limited choices, unless you go for 150w panels.
However, the panasonic hit N250 comes in 1580x798mm, that would give you 500w and can be wired in parallel to a nice mppt. You still can find the old models N240, and N245. All very good panels.
The victron 215w mono will fit to 1580x808mm.

is their such a thing as being over solar’d, bearing in mind the motorhome comes with 2 x 95ah Lithium batteries

if its tight with the plastic mounts use 50x75 ally angle and use the wide side turned under the panels you can use as much or little as you want and get a huge glued footprint compared to the plastic mounts

ive got 180 of solar and a 110 lithium admittedly were not power hungry but not seen it drop below about 20%used over 5 days off grid we have a three way fridge

put one panel but use a controller that is sufficent for two panels as you can easily add another if you need it

Depending on controller. Most controller can handle 1,3 times of solar. Victron controller can handle much more, it throttles back by moving the power point, and taking from the panels only what it needs. For sure. The extra solar comes in handy in full weather, many do over panel for this reason.

Yes Victron, I think for all of our larger panels, but as we keep panels in different shapes and sizes to ensure we use different suppliers, as we have three different shaped 100w panels in stock from memory
