Last time we were at gravelines aire there was a bloke there in an rv looks as if he's there perminent and he has a sign in his window 100w solar panel system fitted £200 while you are there. Don't know anymore , didn't ask about it as wasn't in the market for one and thought it was a lot of money anyway but having read this thread maybe I was wrong.

I am going to fit my own in a couple of weeks time when I am not so busy. Got lots of help and good advice from Techno100 (as already mentioned). I have 2 x 100W panels. All up it is going to cost me about £365, and that includes £74 for a Schaudt controller so that it can work with my existing Schaudt Electrobloc and display. No point in having a sophisticated charging system for habitation and starter batteries and then bypassing it with a cheap crude solar controller.

When looking at costs remember that the proper Sika and activator are not cheap (I am budgeting for 2 tubes for my 2 panels). And there are lots of other bits and pieces you need, which soon add up. But still a lot cheaper than getting it fitted. And I will enjoy the job of fitting it and know it has been done right.

If your struggling for time try http://www.rhinoinstalls.co.uk/ they come to your house and fit it

Might not work if you are in a hurry.......Phil's services are very popular and he is really busy - couldn't do my solar swap for a few weeks (now coming on 5th and I called just after the Peterborough show). Worth a call though as he might have a cancellation:thumb:

I too have been making enquiries regarding fully installed solar panels and some of the prices are eye-watering but I did get some better quotes than those mentioned earlier in this thread.

Leisurepower of Warrington - 80watt panel with standard regulator £399, with LCD regulator £468

Detroit Solar (big fitters at shows) 100watt panel with LCD regulator £399 fitted at a show. They are based in Notts so may fit at their base.

These guys list on Ebay and are mobile - 90 watt £349

no experience of any of them, would like any feedback. Makes you wonder if they can do them for those prices, why can't the others.

Having read through this thread I have a question. At what age do solar panel fitters retire :winky:.

I've just been quoted £70 for fitting by a mobile engineer. I need to supply everything.
My question to you lovely folk is... What do I need to get in addition to the panel ( semi flexible 100w)?
and any recommendations on where to buy?
Thanks as always! (y)

you need a solar controller, cable, mastic, possible conduit or trunking but you really need to check with the installer to make sure you have what u need

I recently fitted two 100 watt panels. The panels were €130 each collected from a local supplier. I fitted a Solar regulator/charger the same one Techno100 uses. which cost me about €110 delivered.
It took me ,a person who never fitted a solar panel before about five hours to do the job a lot of which was spent planning how best to do the job.

Considering how the prices of panels have crashed in recent times your quote looks quite expensive.

I'm a newbie
I was quoted £300 for panel and labour at Autotech near Dartford, to be done while I wait. Reading this, it sounds like a jolly good deal. Maybe it was a smaller affair as my van's tiny but they are very accommodating and friendly. When I went for electrical stuff before, I had three chaps working on the van, even sorting out niggles with non electrical stuff I mentioned, and they only charged for one person working on it for 2 hours. They sat me down in the workshop , made me a cuppa and gave me loads of good advice. The also have a campsite on the Isle of Dogs where they have a big workshop and can help and talk you through how to do things yourself from carpentry to electrical and mechanical whilst staying at the site. Good place geographically if you're en route. As a lone female traveller who's good at all the soft furnishings etc. but hopeless at the technical stuff, I'm really glad to have found them.

That's cheap - I'd have happily paid that for someone to fit my panel.
