After exhausting all my abilities and following all advice given on this thread I have reluctantly taken the van to a local mh repair company.
Sitting in with their electrician we checked all the system and it would appear that the solar panel is the problem.
Although the reading with the controller disconnected was between 15v and 17v but when controller was reconnected the out put to the battery was practically nothing. We then tested 2 other controllers known to be in good working order with the same result.
The only conclusion is that when under load the panel breaksdown.
So the upshot is that a new panel is to be fitted next week.
I'm not sure how competative the price is, but to take off the old panel and fit a new 140 watt panel and dedicated regulator my pocket will be about £450 lighter.
