For the 1999 one dragged our caravan to southern German where you were supposed to get the best views, got a good view of clouds. Since then I've failed to get excited about eclipses.
We were lucky in France the skies cleared as the sun reduced.

For 1999 went to north France by motorbike, had a brilliant view. A lot of our friends went to Cornwall, cloudy so they did not see much. We worked on the principal that if it was cloudy at least we had a trip to France. I got a bit annoyed as with about half an hour to go my mate decided to stop for fuel. Turned out to be a good thing as the fuel station was on a dual carriageway miles from any town. As it was then so close to totality they gave away free dark cardboard goggles. As it became darker all the service station lights came on, the staff quickly turned them off so a wonderful view. The bit I remember was all around in the distance the hills were still in sunshine.

My daughter and I came down to Plymouth for the last one. It was magical looking out to sea over the Sound. We drove down as a last minute thing and slept in the back of my Volvo in Sainsbury's car park!
we were at a festival in plympton and went up to the moors to watch it all the sheep went home and the birds went quiet we had a ring of silver around the horizon but didnt see the actrual eclipse

I thought, given what's happening now I would give this Thread a bump. :)

12th August 2026 is the date. I haven't found detailed timings yet but it will be around 18:30 which suggests you need somewhere with a clear view of the western horizon.

And no clouds which makes the north coast of Spain a risky choice I think.
