Just been reading up on Sodium Ion batteries - they could prove to have quite a few advantages over existing types of storage batteries. It'll be a while before they are commercially available for automotive use but it looks promising - an electric bike using one has already been demonstrated.
 
We did some work on Sodium Nickel-Chloride batteries a while back, we built a charger rated at 100kW to charge high-voltage banks of these batteries.

Very very interesting Peter..
I think it has a way to go yet before a true commercial value can be set but the avenue of exploration seems like a good one..

In the mean time, hiding the charger you mention under a seat is possibly going to be a stumbling block..
