A few may remember me asking advice regarding snow chains. Thanks to those who offered advice by the way.

I thought I'd update on our progress in snowy climes. We've travelled in deep snow and arrived at our destination at la Bresse with absolutely no problem with snow tyres alone, including accessing our pitch in a largely un-cleared site. Obviously we may get snowed in before our departure date but will let you all know.

Rear wheel drive and decent tyres work a treat, think the OP has Continental fourseasons2 on from memory.

Yes, you're right Martin. The snow on the site is about 2ft deep with deep drifts and access to the pitches is downhill so it was a bit scary driving downhill on packed snow but the tyres were fantastic - hopefully they'll do the same going uphill !!

Our dog hasn't been in the snow before - he's practicing his small furry mammal pouncing a la David Attenborough films!! Hilarious,

wish we were with you
We have a Fiat Ducatto Front wheel drive and goes
"Oh NO " in snow
Great on the flat but does not like inclines
Chains are absolutely essential for us
even with snow tyres on.

Don't be too complacent.
Once you start attempting to cross icy ridges caused by a shovel or plough, even the best snow tyres won't climb over them.
Chains will need to be fitted to crunch their way through.

Yes, we did have the snow chains with us but we were really surprised at how well the tyres coped with powder, packed and icy snow. They just kept going as if there was nothing there. I think being rear wheel drive helped too.

We have all season tyres on our soon to be ex motorhome.
The RWD and tyre combo is really good in the conditions described.
