We have a Bailey Autograph 79 6 and have had trouble this winter with clearing the snow/ice from the roof prior to driving off. Does anyone have any tips please? We tried a rope slung over the top of the MH but too many obstructions to be really effective and due to the weather pattern it wasn't powdery snow, more ice so difficult to shift. We tried leaving the heating on for a while but obviously the MH is better insulated than we thought. Don't want to kill someone with a sheet of ice flying off.

Well done you for even thinking about it,there are plenty who don’t bother.
I remember was in the M/H in France on a freezing cold morning following two trucks who had left an overnight service area.I was three vehicles behind the second one with two cars in between.
As they gained speed great chunks of ice started flying off the roof of the second truck which was a curtainsider.I guess the wind made the roof flex enough to blow it off.
The first of the cars windscreen went and the second one veered to the right into a ditch.
I will never forget the faces of the two male occupants who emerged with there faces covered in blood.I presume from screen breaking and ice shards.
To be perfectly honest I thought long and hard about this and could not come up with any solution that was practical.I do stay clear of trucks in these conditions now and drop back when possible but not an easy thing to clear.
We can’t always wait till it warms up can we?

I have no ideas I'm afraid. Last time I had the problem I was lucky enough to have a fast run on a largely empty dual carriageway which cleared most of it.

Trouble is the bits we put up there solar panels TV aerials etc., otherwise a rope cross with a sheet of plastic would do it easily No many have a ladder that tall when they go off.

Not 100% sure of this but I believe it is an offence to drive without clearing snow off your car in Germany. I presume in the UK it's not an offence.

Good point, well raised, I say.
Last week cleared snow & Ice from all windows on our car so I had clear visibility, but I did not clear snow from the roof. Having travelled a couple of miles and the car warming the roof, every time I braked large sheets of snow came down the windscreen in front of me blocking my view momentarily, until I turned on the wipers to remove from my vision.
I have to say at this point I was surprised by "the avalanche effect" of this, never experienced it to the extent I did before.
I would guess that most people do not even consider the effect of large chunks of ice & snow being blown off their roofs, and the effect it will or could have on vehicles following behind.
An eye opener maybe, as for the legal side of things not sure, can I see anyone paying any attention to this?...unlikely

Quite possibly driving without due care and consideration.
These things don't have to be an offence in their own right but can be part of another offence.
Driving on the wrong side of the road isn't a specific offence, it comes under dangerous driving.
