Has anyone managed to compare conventional snow chains vs straps?
Do the straps ever have a problem with the braking system?

By straps I mean something like this:
Amazon product ASIN B07YBZBTC5
We've always used chains but they are such a hassle to put on.

Bet I can put my chains on a lot faster, and without kneeling in the snow, than you could fit those.

You'd be better with snow socks.

It depends on what you are wanting but really you are comparing apples and oranges . If you just want something for a very gentle drive for a very short distance then they might do the job , if not then get some decent chains , which can be put on relatively quickly with practice , and will last a lot longer reliably , and can be used in anger :) same as with sno socks !

Look what they use in areas where snowfall is a regular occurrence?

Chains. There is your answer.

We live in the Rhone Alps. Everyone here uses chains in serious weather conditions. But invest in a good set, not one of these cheapy things that are so awkward to put on you don't want to use them.

And worse to get off. BUSBY.

Chains. Practice putting them in a few times and you're sorted. Socks etc come a poor second when you're up against it.

One quiet afternoon when I was coach driving the boss decided that the newbie drivers should have a lesson on how to fit snow chains. So a nice clean wheel was brought into the drivers room together with a brand new set of pristine chains.

Oh no no no we all cried. Take him outside in his shirtsleeves, blindfold him and turn the water hose on him. THEN tell him to fit the chains!

@Cos that's what happens in real life!

Carried a set of Chains for years, for my Shogun at one time. Never had to use them in anger. Even with the wide tyres and technically unsuitable tread pattern, more suited to sand and grass, it coped with snow without problems usually High first (even 2nd) 4WD and careful progress. (y) A "light" foot, is IMV the secret.
