Is the Snipe system any good?

We've got a second user Snipe 2 we got from another Funster and it's worked well.
Allegedly the original Snipe 1 and possibly earlier Snipe 3's had suspect gearing.
Believe there's now a Snipe 4 version (according to the firmware update page) http://www.selfsat.com/downloadhomeantenna

As for performance against your current system I guess that would depend on what you're replacing.

Edit - This is the manual for it.

We have the original Snipe which we bought about 7 years ago, first two years portable but now been on our roof for five years. Every so often it omits grinding noise on start up, so just go out with an adjustable Ali pole, nudge gently under the bit that revolves and bingo, job done.

Yep, I had the same problem with mine, but as you say, it worked well. But it packed up when in Spain I got a company to clean the van and they power washed the roof and water must have penetrated the box.
So it seems the Snipe 2 is more robust re gear grinding.

Believe so. Just make sure if you're getting a Snipe 2, obviously as second user, that the cable entry into the base has been sealed properly.
