I can get live TV on iplayer but not ITV, can't remember about catchup not got the smart TV with me.

We have a Humax box at home and it restricts what you can view on catchup i.e. no live tv. Our Cello tv in the Motorhome runs android so the App does as you would expect.
I suspect it saves someone money somewhere to do this.

Different apps for different devices have different abilities.
Usually down to device compatibility eg firmware
Or functionality. ie A Freesat Humax box is designed to get its live TV direct from the satellite. A Bit pointless in designing a Freesat Humax box for it not to be used with a satellite signal.
And most apps were designed for "mobile" devices, for live streaming. A 24" TV is not exactly "mobile", so is designed for "static" use with traditional means.

How exactly does that work? No keyboard!
In the camper I use a laptop that has a screen as big as most van tv's.
I have a smart tv in one of our other abodes that I stream from the smartphone.
Where I am now we don't have a smart tv but link a tablet to a tv via an hdmi cable, what advantage would the mini computer have over this method.

How old is the smart TV?
Mine at home is now "not compatible " to things like BBC iplayer and ITV Hub even though they used to play fine. I also paid extra for 3D , (whatever happened to that?) and all the 3D icons have disappeared.

What you have will work well. I just connected a mini pc to the main tv, I have a fire stick on other tvs but with the computer I can do other things apart from watching tv. I started doing this well over 10 years ago with a Mac mini which cost about £500, when that failed I was not going to replace it until I found a mini pc for about £100. I sold the apple keyboard and mouse and bough a keyboard with a trackpad ans it works well, apart from the last update when it ran out of hard drive space and I had to put an external hard drive on, luckily I has a spare one. I'm not sure if I would replace it if it failed now, I may just get another firestick

I had a tv with 3D never used it. If your "smart" tv has gone dumb, put a firestick in it that will smarten it up just fine. :giggle:
