Looking at some of the prices of dedicated reversing or full time backward looking cameras......is there any reason that a rear looking camera could not be fed into a small laptop velcro'd to the dash and powered by a ciggie lighter ?

The screen would be HD the size would be great.and at least it would have other uses when you were parked up.

We must be getting ripped off with dedicated reversing screens as well as cameras ?

thoughts please

I guess you could use a webcam and a netbook.

USB can be extended 10m so could work.

you need power to a reversing camera, usually through the audio/video cable via the control unit...the expensive bits.

monitors can be bought very cheap depending on what you want of it.

i paid ÂŁ70 for my last setup c/w a 7" monitor.

A Woosh bang
Word of warning about mounting a lappy on the dash..

I used a small 12" Sony lappy as a sat nav .. had it fixed to the dash with velcro.. worked a treat until the vibration trashed the HD. Fortunately I had it repaired under warranty ..

Another issue was sunlight on the screen.. made it difficult to see clearly.
