Hi all. Happy holidays!

One of the few irritants in our new van is the absence, despite an enormous cab, of a sensible place to put a drink.

I saw on Facebook that someone had found clip on cupholders which attach to the Ducato locking compartment in the lower centre of the dashboard.Unfortunately, I couldn’t get details of the link or source of it.

Has anyone else found a clip on holder that fits here – or, indeed, found another good solution?

Thanks. Chris

May have been this one you saw?
<Broken link removed>
However, other Funsters have knocked up their own similar diy versions.

Thanks. It wasn’t actually - although someone did refer to that one. £50 plus postage seems a little excessive. The one I saw was just a single cupholder which hooked over the top edge of that door.

Anything take your fancy here?

Thanks. I did exactly that search. All the ones I could see seem to be for fitting onto the air vents and, rightly or wrongly, I don’t feel confident that they would be strong enough to hold the monster cups of coffee I favour from Costa etc.

Not strong enough to hold a full can of Pepsi.

Just log on to Amazon Global and then search cup holders?Every shape and style
known to man!
Prices and delivery seem sensible.

Yebbut, with heater on full it'd keep the coffee hotter.

(Is it legal to drink whilst driving? Opportunity there for a cup with a built-in 'phone?).

Amazon product ASIN B01N7YYFQB
Remove the locking centre console storage box and replace with Original Fiat Cup Holder/Fiat Ducato/Citroen Jumper Peugeot Boxer 250 Models from 2006 Onwards.

It does seem to be quite a big sacrifice to swap the glove box for two cup holders but you do get two extra storage slots as well. We just could not manage without cup holders.

It is possible to obtain a cup holder/tray that fits in the top of the opened locking centre console storage box but if that is fitted then it severely restricts access to pass between the front seats to the rear of the van.

That depends. On the motorway near me, there are sometimes illuminated signs saying 'Don't drink and drive'. I presume when they are not on, it's quite OK to drink and drive.:xwink:

It would be construed as failing to be in proper control of a motor vehicle, and it would be for the driver to try and convince a court that they were in a position to be able drive safely and to react to any circumstances that might reasonable be expected to occur, including emergencies. Good luck with that if you haven't got both hands available to control the wheel and operate other controls simultaneously as might be required.

Tends not to go down too well in court either when the driver pleading not guilty to driving without due care and attention was found to have coffee spilled down their clothes or a sandwich plastered across the steering wheel or splattered across the driver's seat and footwell when police examined the vehicle at the scene of the collision.

I do find it strange that people can't take rest breaks at appropriate times to consume food and drink, or apparently drive for more than a few minutes without needing to consume something

I remember someone in Chippenham being done some years back for drinking from a bottle of squash at some traffic lights.?

My thoughts too.
The O.P's post reminded me of my neighbour, a senior B.A. cabin staff trainer when I mentioned what an unnecessary faff it seems to provide drinks and snacks on even short flights, especially in view of the pressure to keep the loaded aircraft weight down to save fuel. His reply was that it was nothing to do with passenger comfort but for the crew's benefit as it kept passengers in their seats.
In similar weight-saving vein as a regular flyer I read in one of the B.A. in-flight magazines how their latest aircraft have been designed to save weight - a few kilos here and a few kilos there. I wrote and suggested that since most passengers have a litre (1kg, + the container) or two of duty-free booze they could save a great deal of in-flight weight (and the hassle of heavy bottles dropping out of o/head lockers) by arranging for passengers to buy their booze at Arrivals. They replied that the franchisees of the shops refused to discuss it as passengers would spend more money in their shops during the dead waiting time before departure than when they are in a rush upon arriving.

I have a 2016 model fiat van, a Pilote, it has the very cup holder unit that you are looking for and I hate the damn thing, would you care to swap :xThumb:

There should be one in your CD player, push the tit to load a disc, the slide comes out,

et viola! a cup holder.

These must cost pennies to produce, can't understand why they are so expensive.
Making the mold costs thousands. China used to be the cheapest place to get them made, still probably is. The cost of the tooling has to be recovered in the price and for something like this, which they won't be expecting to sell huge numbers, the price has to be high. :)

If you swap the glove box to the drinks tray or vise vera, which filter behind should you change at same time again?

The pollen filter. It filters the air going from outside to the internal heater fan. You don’t have to, but it saves you having to take it all off again later.

I find it very odd that people can go all day without any type of drink ?

Possibly trained by Camels?

However, getting back to the drinks tray conversion, if anyone is selling I am looking for the drinks tray for centre glove box conversion for a Boxer 2016, X290 cab. Ta

I think it was Dean Martin who once said-: He didn’t trust Camels or anybody else who could go without drink for a week!!??

Dont know about that but my wife once said to me " Can you not go without a drink for 1 day" but that was about something else!
But i agrea with never trusting camels.
