Skype make it sound like the world will come to an end if you don't follow there instructions to Upgrade. So we do it and find the update is crap. It is not just me, I have spoken to others with the same post update issues.
Have you updated your Skype yet, how do you find it....?

We now use WhatsApp video calls.

I always have trouble with Skype, but eventually I get it to work.
WhatsApp is a very good alternative.

Holding off on the upgrade myself as MS tends to deal with Linux as a second or third class citizen... Wondering what will break.

ok. Just checked and I can install both versions side by side. So have installed it. Looks ok and appears to work.
Will have to wait till one of my clients tries to contact me now...

I use skype most days and had it set up to real perfection then this came along and back to square one again. Whoever developed this upgrade must have done it as a dare...

I have used WhatsApp but always go back to Skype. Well before this upgrade anyway.

Can you phone landlines or normal mobile phone numbers using whatsapp?

Not as far as I know, I thought both or all parties needed WiFi to use whatsapp. But there again!!
