Can you download the Sky app directly on the TV? If not then probably better to get an amazon firestick and download Sky app on to it and watch it via the tv's HDMI socket.
HTH.
Have a firestick at home ..how do that work ? Does the firestick use data or what .?

yes your firestick needs wi ifi connection, either from your phone or from a mifi or whatever device in the van

As far as I know there isn't an actual Sky app for the Firestick. There are separate apps for BBC, ITV, CH4 and then the likes of Prime, Netflix and Disney etc which covers most things but not the Sky Sports and F1 channels. If there is a Sky app for Firestick then please can someone link to it.

Sky now have a product called Sky Glass which only uses an Internet connection and doesn't require a satellite dish so it may be possible to use this product in a motorhome.

I think there are ways to side load the sky app onto the Amazon stick. It’s not supported so not guaranteed to work.

Unless you have a sat dish on your MH only way to get sky is to use a dongle and data if you phone data isn’t up to it. Sky glass tv would still need data.

And Sky will use quite a lot of data just to support the EPG & other background tasks.
We’ve an older Sky Glass thread on its suitability for a motorhome use. I’ll try find it and add a link.
But I’ve summarised it in this post 🤪

Edit: Here 👍🏻

I think that there is or will be a Sky Glass which is just the set top box and you can use your own TV.
Isn’t that Sky’s NOW TV box?
An upgraded version of that wouldn’t be far from Sky Glass. Mostly just a new user interface to make catchup TV appear more like a timeline of events than separate programs.

Sky Glass without the TV is now possible thanks to launch of Sky Stream puck.

Any TV.

We use a NOW TV stick in the van. Can also access BBC iPlayer etc. I subscribe to NOW TV sports.. to watch F1.

I set up my daughters xbox or PlayStation (whichever one she has) in the Motorhome so they could play whilst I was driving.
You can stream sky tv (Sky go) through this to watch on any size tv but obviously using data.

Oh! Thanks for that.
My sister’s Sky Glass uses the puck for multi room 👍🏻
And from the article posted, that’ll also be standalone capable. Hers isn’t 🤔

I have Sky Q and I don't have Sky Glass. I don't know if the puck works without the Sky Glass TV.

I have had SkyGo on my laptop for a number of years. But since we left the EU it won't let me watch anything on it when abroad, even when using a VPN. However NowTV does let me watch Sky Sports, either via a Firestick or on my laptop, when using a VPN. Not sure if you can subscribe to say Sky Atlantic or other SKy channels though through NowTV.

I pay for a full sky subscription at home and use a third party app to watch all the same channels on firestick in the van

Sky go still working okay for me in Europe on my tablet, using a Tesco mobile sim in the mifi no vpn. How are you connecting to the Internet when sky go doesn’t work?

As far as i can see you need a special TV which only Sky provide,
Why does this not surprise me!!
WE use our old sky box and new card, with Sat dome, seems to work OK

With regard to the puck, I'm wondering if it will have any location finding ability so if you're in Europe it won't work.

I think there may be a couple of causes. The obvious one is your data connection simply isn't fast enough. If this is the case you might find it is better in another location with a stronger signal. If this is the case an external broadband antenna on the roof should make a difference.

The other cause might be the phone is not able to handle the video load. I found this out last week when using Chromecast to show something on iPlayer on the MH Avtex TV. Using my phone, ça Google Pixel 3a, the program was a bit glitch, with buffering every now and again. Switching to my Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite it worked perfectly. To make sure I swapped between the two and the same thing happened. The Galaxy tablet could cast the screen easily, the phone couldn't. Both devices were running off the same WiFi router so should have access to the same signal. The difference in performance has to be down to the devices.

I've a few ideas why this might happen but my best guess is the phone video processor is optimised for a smaller screen than the tablet.

Usually connect over 4G on a mobile - works for Netflix and Amazon. Can't honestly remember what error I was getting with SkyGo, it was about 4 weeks ago now and my memory's not that good. :(

Could you tell us which app? I have tried google and it brings me back here after saying not possible to get the sky channels including sport, on a firestick unless paying separately and duplicating payment, for NOW.

They may be talking of a doctored firestick?

the APP I use is G-host, which is an IPTV channel. Basically only legal if you already pay for the channels, but can of course be used illegally to access them
