Hello having recently crossed from MHF I am looking for recomendations for sites around Old Windsor and then Peterborough for our trip from France in October. We are not, as yet , members of any clubs but would be prepared to join one. I expect to looking for somewhere near Shepton Mallet for February March. Looking forward to your replies. (will post another thread re Spain.

It depends on how long you are staying in the UK and what facilities you require to decide if it is worth joining one of the clubs - i.e. paying out an annual subscription as against more expensive commercial sites. The benefit of joining either of the two major clubs is that, apart from consistently high quality facilities, they both also have extensive chains of small 5-van sites, some being well-equipped but all at least offering water and waste disposal for very small cost. Incidentally, forget ACSI, they have very little presence in the UK.

There are other alternatives offered by a variety of organisations, Britstop coming to mind which is similar to the "France Passion" scheme. Then there are lists of other places where motorhomers are welcome, such as pubstops. Here are a couple maybe worth looking at:

You mention Old Windsor; assume you wish to visit the castle? Overnight parking is allowed in the main carpark, in the coach parking section. In October it won't be too busy, especially if you avoid Sat & Sun, but check with the attendants. No facilities (well there are toilets) but only a short walk to the town and castle.

There'll be other suggestions along shortly. Enjoy your visit.

There's also potable water on the coach side of the mobility hire shop :)
