Well I know this is not how most people do it but seeing it will be the first trip into Europe with the motorhome - been previously with the caravan - we have decided to book sites in advance so we can concentrate on other areas whilst away. We are going on a 18 night trip sailing from Hull visiting Bruge, Ypres, Valkenburg, Utrecht & Delft. The total mileage will be around 750 miles door to door. Can wait to get across to Europe again. We would normally only have used one or two sites in the past on such a trip with the caravan so the start of more touring in the motorhome.

Have a great time..

On our first trip in the moho, (2017) we booked the first two nights intending to book as we go, but quickly realised that with aires almost everywhere, and being able to just turn up at campsites without booking we didn't bother booking anymore. .(This was May/June).. and have never booked since then.

Have a good trip.
We have never booked anything not even in our tugging days in school holidays never had trouble finding anywhere to stop. We don't do planning often don't know where we will end up each day that's the beauty of Motorhoming.

Certainly we don't book in yerp but then not many places allow booking anyway. Coastal sites being a notable exception.

Good idea for peace of mind on your first trip. I did the same many years ago but have never booked anything since. Whilst out and about you can assess/will realise the ease of finding un-booked stopping places for the future.
High season (End July & Aug it may be tricky but I don't know as since I retired and with no young kids I haven't had to tour in high season).

Hi Riggers,
Can I ask what site you have chosen for Delft? We were thinking of staying at Delft for a few nights to explore the City and use it as a commuting point for Rotterdam, we have found one but it is quite expensive.

Cheers

Hi next stop we are staying at Delftse Hout a site we have stayed at before When caravanning. It’s an easy walk into the centre of town on the edge of a park and we found it really comfortable. It has had major improvements to the reception/facility block Sienese we were last there in 2018. It isn’t the cheapest but it is very convenient.

That's the one I've shortlisted, did look nice, you've answered my next question about the distance to the city centre, on gaagle maps it seemed to be well located for a walk, from which we can go via Train to Rotterdam. In my mind the convenience outweighed the cost, especially as we would like to visit Delft.
We are going for 2 weeks at the beginning of April and have chosen a mix of campsites and aires.

It really is convenient. Approx 20 minute walk to train/tram station. We did the train to Rotterdam when last there - very easy. You can also catch the tram to the coast at Schevingen and if you get a sunny day well worth a visit. Delft is lovely with an excellent choice of restaurants/bars. I have a great trip

We also normally only book first and last campsites.
However after last years problems with every site very full, even in early May, we are booking a few more sites this year.

The dates when you MUST book sites (or otherwise start sitting in the queue outside the site at 10am, yes, really!)
Is Ascension Day (18th May, so you need to book 17-21 May) and
in Catholic areas, Corpus Christi (8th June, so you need to book 7-11 June)
Both are on Thursdays this year, so the sites will fill from Wednesday night to Sunday night

Last year, we got the last place in a 150 van aire over the 5 day Ascension holiday, and were unable to move out, as every other site was full, and in some case charging €80pn for a pitch!!.

We were in a nice (pre-booked) site for Corpus Christi, so did not have a problem (other than the cannon going off at 15 min intervals starting at 05.00!) but every single pitch was taken on the site we were on, and they were asking friends and those in campervans to double up onto a single pitch, so for several days it was a bit Glastonbury.

We stayed at Delft Hout many years ago, we did the tram trip but stopped at The Hauge on the way back just for a nosey.

We travel to Europe event year and use a mix of Aires and pre booked campsites. For Ypres I recommend Camping Jeudstadion just a short walk to the Menin gate. There is an aire also at that campsite but has always been busy when we have been there,

Hi yes we have booked ourselves onto that site as the difference between the Aire and a more formal pitch on the site was negligible in the scheme of things

There's another a Zillebeke, that's still walkable into Ypres.
