Looking
We’re look at buying a new van, and looks like we’ll need to go to simpsons which is a 4/5hour drive one way. Worth aftercare, can you go to any same brand dealer if there are snags/leaks/things to fix or does it have to be back to initial dealer? Any experiences? So far I’ve just had no replies to my emails to them. I’ve heard river motorhomes talked about, is that for new motorhome issues as well?

That’s y buying local is always best but you don’t get the choice or availability then, however, most will try and get you what you want if you know model ect.

Our local dealer has a message on his phone answering system saying that they will only carry out warranty work on vehicles bought from them at the moment.

We bought our previous AutoTrail from Simpsons about 10 years ago.
Sales team were good….not pushy.
They are also Fiat Professional dealers so can service the van on the premises.
I would use them again.

5 hours each way makes for some very long days going back for all the problems you will get, it will make a minor problem seem like a major issue

From our experience it does not matter because most buyers don’t get any backup from any Motorhome dealers.
We have bought a few vans over the last 12 years some new some used and found all customer service less than acceptable.

We bought our present motorhome from Simpsons and found them Ok. However, we have not had a good enough reason to use their after sales service as I do all my own work. I have never found a motorhome dealer with a good enough workshop and/or staff that I was prepared to trust to work on my vehicle. Quite the opposite, on a couple of occasions for warranty work. I even had to get Swift involved once, to allow me to rectify the job carried out by a dealer. Not Simpsons I must add.

My bil has had two Autotrails from them over the years and still gets servicing etc done with them.
Since Becks closed I have taken my Hymer to them for MOTs and service plus cam belt water pump a couple of weeks back .
No problems for us.

Our first ever motorhome was purchased from Danum Leisure nr Doncaster just over 3 years ago, the service we received from them was superb, infact it was bloody fantastic. 😉

They’re the only place that currently have the model we want this year sadly. So it’s them and travel or wait until next year. I’ve heard about river Ford that do warranty work for other places? That’s only 2 hours from us so better if it’s doable/allowed. Am anticipating there will Be issues to fix.
have been surporised at the amount of dealers that haven’t responded to email enquires until I’ve emailed a few times and it’s put us off a few.

Our dealer is in Belgium 170 miles away although I have had warranty work done in the UK I find it easier to go back to them as they have really good workshops. We combine it with a trip also none of this waiting months to get an appointment that you get in the UK.

Well that is very refreshing to know a dealer has looked after their customers, this should be standard practice,
But unfortunately from the moans on here that is not the norm👍

Purchase as local to you as humanly possible as you’ll be going back and forth quite a bit

And never from anyone who doesn’t respond to emails
Unless youre like me and found the van you had wanted for ages and the only one that came up in 6 months was at a dealer in the arse end of cornwall..360 miles away
But yes, in general as close as poss in case problem ensue

Currently have to decide whether a saving of £6k is worth needing a ferry to get there. Or driving 4/6hours is ok if I can get serviced locally. Although the fact that I’m skiing about buying and not getting any email response isn’t reassuring for aftercare.
