So I've just discovered I have included roaming on my phone plan but the Mrs doesn't on her plan , and at a cost of £2 per day that she's getting charged I'm gonna get a PAYG or monthly sim here in France , so a few questions
1.what sim options do I have that I could buy "over the counter"
2.where would I buy it from so I could see if there was an outlet near our journeys.

P.S and yes I am in the dog house because I have roaming included in my plan :)

Supermarket, little shop in a town - lots of possibilities. We just got one 15 euros for 50gb. Just from a odds and ends shop.

Quite impressed by what I’ve read about the Free network in France - only read, mind, I’ve never used them. It seems you can buy a contract-free SIM even from a machine - you can find them on https://www.free.fr/boutiques/ by selecting “Bornes“. I believe they do require a French address entering, but seemingly accept a campsite.

In the pre-roaming days I always hated getting a PAYG sim in France - the queues in the phone shops were endless! Which is why the Idea of using a machine in appealing.

We used Free when we were in France last year. Excellent signal throughout when we travelled down the west coast, southern coast and back up the Middle 😁

Then we travelled to Spain and purchased 2 Tiekom sims which are usable throughout Europe. In fact, we are sat here in Germany sending you this message via them now 😁

Have a look at this if interested. Camino at Tiekom is fabulous, she can post sims to your home address or a site overseas, which she did for us when in Spain, and it arrived within 2 days! Great personal service too with tech help etc. Highly recommend

Any questions, please just ask

She can always hotspot to your phone…

We live in France and use reglo mobile, (available in any e.leclerc supermarket) below are their options after 5€ initial charge for a SIM

the nice thing is that it is easy to swap between the different options, as long as you change it on line before the end of the month, so when you go home you could change it to the 1.5€/month option to keep the line open until your next trip, then the month before up it again to the package that you want.

The disadvantage is that it uses the SFR network that dosent have the same coverage as Orange or Free (Free uses the Orange network) i dont find it much of a problem but i have not traveled a lot around france. There is a coverage map on the website to see if it is likely to be a problem where you are planning to go.

We've used Lebara successfully in France. Buy from Intermarché. Their customer service is excellent if you get stuck.
