Hi guys, i need to re-apply silicone around the rear wheel arch moulding. Any suggestions on how to remove the old silicone without Stanley knives ? Don’t want to risk damaging the bodywork. Any suggestions would much appreciated.
Best Regards.

Screwfix do a product that will remove silicone, it is a gel that you brush on and wipe off.

On our last motorhome the surround that contained the reversing camera had to be removed.
I watched the guy remove it. He made it look very easy by using a oscillating multi tool with a non toothed blade to cut/remove the silicone.
I don't know thought if I would be brave enough to attempt it.

Use the silicone remover a couple of times then some white spirit and a lot of elbow grease with a soft cloth otherwise the new silicone will eventually peel off.

I have one of these tools, it works well for silicon/sealer removal, as you say, use a non-toothed blade and super handy for cutting stuff in inaccessible places (which MHs specialise in).

I have found the Screwfix silicone remover to be the best having tried many of the crap branded and over priced ones.

I have got a resealing job to do and have bought a kit of gear from Amazon that includes hard plastic tools for removing the bulk of the sealant before using the removal gel for the final clean up before resealing.

Amazon product

Agree it even softens PU.

It is probably not silicone around the wheel arch, if it is just for sealing it will probably be butyl mastic. If it is holding the arch on it will probably be a PU adhesive.
I wouldn't use silicone to replace it.

As above, silicone sealant is of no use on a motorhome. If it's been used, if there is a loose bit, and there will be, just pulling it off will take it off cleanly. It doesn't bond well to most plastics, or the bodywork. If it is butyl mastic, scrape the worst off with an old credit card and clean the rest off with white spirit and rags

thanks guys, really helpful advice, once i have managed to remove the stuff that’s already on i was going to use the Sikaflex all weather sealant from screwfix or the Dow weatherproofing sealant also from screwfix. the caulking kit from Amazon looks good.
thanks again guys.
Regards.
