Hi. I need to do a repair on the rear skirt of our van - I caught a bank with the O/S R corner when reversing in the dark & pulled 2 panels apart where they are joined; it looks like with plastic rivets that have snapped. It's at the bottom of the skirt & is not structural but looks as though it might move in the airflow when driving.
Can anybody advise if Sikaflex is the way to go & which one to get please as there are so many? I can glue the two pieces together on the flanges behind then just run a small bead down the outside to finish it. There are no cracks (luckily (y)) in the plastic. Thanks, Chris

  • Suggest you go on the Sitka site and look for adhesive and make sure it's not sealer. Could you not u not use fibreglass mat and resin to repair it from the inside

Hi I would use either Puraflex 40 from Toolstation or ( not to mix it up with Sikaflex) Siroflex Grip and grab adhesive ....once it is pressed together its staying there

Sika 252 is a structural assembly adhesive , also recommended for fixing solar panels and sat dishes to the roof..

SIKAFLEX®-252
ASSEMBLY ADHESIVE

Ideal for structural joints that will be subjected to dynamic stresses and suitable substrate materials are timber, metals, particularly aluminum (incl. anodized components), sheet steel (incl. phosphated, chromated and zinc-plated components), metal primers and paint coatings (2-c systems), ceramic materials, and plastics.

Hi, New to this site but just thought I'd say, I used 512 to stick a solar panel to my roof 4 weeks ago, (followed instructions abraided all surfaces etc) was nearly at the end of a 4500 mile trip around Europe, when whoosh ! A big artic flew past on what was a windy day..... no more solar panel Sikaflex 512 is good but nut and bolts for me as well next time I'm afraid and I'll chance a wee leak and deal with that !!

512 is primarily a sealer.. not an adhesive.. read the instructions. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...0Caravan.pdf&usg=AOvVaw0HpE0FrM1DAj4U2oyLlYf_

252 is a structural adhesive. see previous post for links

I'd say poor workmanship :)

I've fitted bodykits and spoilers to cars with the stuff for years.

Google sikaflex 512 there's the first thing that comes up.

" all purpose adhesive sealant used in caravan/motothome construction and repair"

When I did something similar I put an offcut of plastic behind bonded on with epoxy to re-inforce it

Taking @Terry 's advice a couple of years ago, I started using Puraflax 40 for pretty much everything
It is a third the price and sticks like dog poo on a wedding dress to just about everything !
