We had a leak from our Shureflow 30psi pump and replaced it with a 20psi on the advice of the guy who fitted it. He said there was no need for a 30 psi for a van our size. The new pump is ridiculously noisy- pulsing and banging when re-pressuring and less so when the taps are running. Could the change from 30 to 20 psi have caused this? I’ve looked at previous forum discussions on this and people mention a screw to adjust the re-pressure rate but I’m not sure where that is. I also notice that there is air in the filter and not sure if that is normal? Any advice appreciated.

Did he mount it on the rubber dampers?

There’s rubber between the screws and the van wall if that’s what you mean…
Ah, OK. The pressure is pre-set so should not need adjustment on a new pump. The noise and the air in the filter is somewhat baffling, as you say.

Even running mine dry doesn’t make any significant noise (Shurflo pumps are safe to run dry and a good way of pressurising the system to blow water out of the lines after draining down)

There’s a big air bubble in the filter. Is that usual, I can’t remember whether that was there on the old pump.

That should not be there; I would have thought that the head of water from the tank should have pushed that out right away

I've rarely managed to get rid of the air in the filter but it never created a problem. Putting a small length of flexible pipe just after the pump made the biggest difference to our noisyish pump. I tried an expansion tank but it made no noticeable difference no matter what pressure I pumped into it so took it out of the system again.

Banging on ours turned out to be the outlet hoses knocking as they passed through the bulkhead. Some sponge insulation cured it. As for the bubble, I'd maybe suspect an air leak - make sure all the connections from the tank to the pump are tight, but don't over-tighten. The pump "pulsing" also usually means there's a pressure leak downstream of the pump.

Sounds to me like this "fitter" was not very good, a competent guy would know about all these things and check before leaving the job. I did all of this work myself, it's not exactly rocket science.

After suffering noisy bulkhead pumps in the past, I tried a square of yoga mat between the pump and the wall. That worked very well

surging on the new pump could be a minor leak so the pressure doesn't build right as the pump runs
