Our Kenwood & Garmin is fine, no problems with it being slow. It was fitted into a new Hymer and the dealer got the fitter to wire it into the Hab battery, so that it could be used for radio when not driving. You just need to make sure you switch it off once you are parked up and not using it, because it is a drain on the batteries.
